The finalists are contenders for eight prestigious Sammies, including Federal Employee of the Year, set to be presented on September 15 at a Washington, D.C. black-tie gala. “Too often the people who do our nation’s work go unnoticed, that’s why the Service to America Medals are so important,” said Max Stier, Partnership for Public Service President and CEO. “They tell the true stories of the remarkable work that our federal employees do each and every day. You’re seeing government at its very best.”

Twenty-seven of the medal contenders are from the D.C.-metro area; others hail from Albany N.Y., White River Junction, Vt., Atlanta Ga., Deerfield Beach, Fla., Martinsburg W.Va., Menlo Park, Calif. and Seattle Wash.

The finalists work at the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, State, Treasury, Veterans Affairs, the EOP, EPA, FCC, GAO, GSA, Library of Congress, NASA, NTSB and SSA.
