Exceptional Service Leads to PMG Recognition and Celebrity Car Tour

A positive customer service experience from the Los Angeles District’s Airport Station post office led to the employees being honored by the Postmaster General as well as getting a personal tour of Jay Leno’s car collection.

On the first day of issue of the Muscle Cars stamps, a collector visited Los Angeles District’s Airport Station to obtain a hand-stamp postmark. Supervisor Sidney Battle and Sales and Service Associate Robert Wesley took good care of the customer.

In fact, the customer thought the service was so friendly and exceptional that he went out of his way to thank them for their efforts. It turned out this customer was a producer on the NBC webcast “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which highlights Comedian and Tonight Show Host Jay Leno’s car collection and features videos of Leno discussing cars and related subjects.

It also happened that the show had asked Postmaster General (PMG) Pat Donahoe to be a guest and talk about the Muscle Car stamps. Battle and Wesley were invited to attend the March 20 taping in Burbank and tour Leno’s car collection afterwards.

While Wesley was unable to make the event, Battle was there — and early. “I’m a car guy myself and this was a dream come true,” said Battle. “I couldn’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The PMG thanked Battle for providing our customers such good service and Leno provided both the PMG and Battle a personal tour of his collection of almost 200 vehicles. Battle also got to meet Muscle Car Stamp Artist Tom Fritz who was also there for the taping and obtain a few autographs.

“This was amazing,” said Battle. “We always strive to give every customer exceptional service, it’s just something we do. I can’t believe how it turned out.”
