The Office of Personnel Management has released the latest monthly figures on its retirement claims processing status. The latest data show that the backlog of outstanding clams was reduced only slightly in June.

The backlog went from 15,374 to 14,511, a 5.6% decrease overall. While this is a move in the right direction, the change was relatively flat compared to some of the past monthly gains that the agency has achieved.

OPM is still running behind on the backlog according to its own figures. It estimated that at the end of June the backlog would be at 11,542, so it has missed that mark by just over 20%.

OPM received 6,920 claims in June and was able to process 7,783 which enabled the slight reduction in the overall backlog. However, May saw much greater gains in the reduction when OPM was able to process almost 3,000 more claims than it received, reducing the backlog that month by almost 16%.

The latest complete statistics are included below.
