FEGLI Open Season Starts in September – Are You Ready?

The upcoming open season for the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance Program (FEGLI) starts September 1 and runs until September 30.

Open seasons for FEGLI are a rare occurrence; the most recent ones were held in 2004 and 1999.

The Office of Personnel Management wants to make sure federal employees have plenty of information to take whatever actions they may need to.

As a last minute preparation tool, OPM has released this checklist to help federal workers in their planning for the open season. Items in the checklist include tips on learning the basics of the FEGLI program, deciding how much coverage you need, and using OPM’s FEGLI calculator to compute premiums for various combinations of coverage.
