It's been a busy month.

The first week of March the Postal Service and Postal Inspection Service partnered with the Federal Trade Commission to draw attention to fraud and other threats to consumers during National Consumer Protection Week.

Expansion of the Post Office lobby recycling program was announced, and USPS.com Week events were held nationwide to inform customers about using the postal website.

Last, but not least, the Postal Service is joining the Department of State, March 28, to celebrate "Passport Day in the USA."

The national passport acceptance and outreach event will include Passport Fairs at hundreds of Post Offices nationwide. Customers will be able to apply for a passport and get additional information about the new regulation.

June 1, 2009, citizens must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel document approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card can be found at www.usps.com/passport/ or travel.state.gov, or call the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1 (877) 487-2778.

In 2008, the Postal Service accepted 8.5 million passport applications.

  • Go visit any foreign country. You have to have your passport and visa on you at all times. So what's the big deal about showing your ID entering the US....

  • This law will only apply to people crossing at the manned borders all those sneaking across will still have no problem....
