President Signs Defense Bill: Includes Credit for Sick Leave and Abolishes NSPS

We we noted in a recent article (Human Resources Changes Include Sick Leave Credit for FERS Employees and Abolishing NSPS), the Senate recently passed a bill that provides a number of benefits to federal employees. The bill was not a law at that time as it has not been signed by the President.

President Obama today signed the bill.

The new law will make several changes to the federal human resources system including:

For federal employees under the FERS system who were anticipating getting credit for their unused sick leave upon retirement, take note that the new system will not take effect immediately. It will be phased in. This means that until December 31, 2013, employees would receive a credit of 50 percent for unused sick leave. After this date, they would receive full credit for their unused leave.

  • The individual who posted the note about NSPS being the "clone of the evil navy/china lake system", obviosly never worked under the China Lake DEMO program. NSPS is nothing like what China Lake did for pay for performance. I can assure you I have yet to talk to someone at China Lake who likes NSPS...

  • it is well that the nsps system was terminated. as a clone of the evil navy/china lake system, it had one hidden agenda; turn the entire work force into total toadies and shoeshine boys (and girls). the nsps, like the older china lake system, was designed to weed out all whistle blowers, eeo compl...

  • i am not sure how the rest of you feel about the actuarial tables used by the ss dept to determine the amount of the offset. if you take a close look you will find that unless your agency provides a table of your life expectancy the ss will use theirs and what a shock you will get. for exsample, ...
