The most common misperception, in the United States, is there is an abundance of people for the jobs. In fact, there is a shortage of men and women for jobs. Even more significant, there is a skills shortage. It is fairly acute in certain areas and it is going to become worse.

On a recent flight, I met someone who is called only if there is a dispute between a labor union and management that cannot be resolved by the parties themselves. He qualifies for Medicare but there is always work for a seasoned professional. He is well-paid and provides a valuable function for our economy.
