I agree with the decision of the Administrative Law Judge. The Hatch Act is there for a reason and it has already been liberalized sufficienty enough as far as I am concerned. Individuals entering federal service are advised of the provisions of the Hatch Act and there are reminders on a regular basis.
I do not really care what political party it is, Green, Democrat, Republican, Prohibition, etc. The attorney had no business using the government computer to further the cause of his chosen party at the expense of the American taxpayer. To express your views privately to a co-worker (assuming they have asked your opinion) is one thing. Using a government computer email service to evangelize your chosen party's platform is entirely another.
He was warned. He deserved to be fired.
Dang right they fired him.

Of all the people to outright ignore the basics of the Hatch Act! You would think an Attorney would at least look up the law he was so blithely ignoring.
Maybe we should reimpose the full restrictions of the Hatch act on all employees. Not just those in sensitive positions. The public has a right to expect federal bureaucrats to be politically nuetral.
