Thank you for the free service and opportunity to comment. Thank you also for encouraging readers to proofread comments prior to submission. The lack of proper grammar and spelling adds to the already negative perception of federal employees.

Why do folks want to discuss the mundane. Glad to see that old Ralph did not argue with the writer. You lose every time you argue with ignorance. They will beat you with experience

Ralph, You have said it well. Reader comments do indicate what topics are considered important to those who take the time to write. And your points are well made, that such comments can create, change, or reinforce public opinions of Federal employees.

Having served for 20 years (and I do consider myself a public servant), I have concluded that the Federal workforce is a pretty fair representation of the rest of America. We have many, many employees who strive hard every day to make theirs a better and more efficient agency. And, like the rest of the country, many who spend much time complaining. But overall, we are a workforce to be proud of.

I don't want to miss this chance to THANK you and the rest of the FedSmith staff for YOUR service. I hadn't realized you do this without compensation. It is very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

I have a feeling Ralph gets compensated from the advertisers on his site.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments in the 9/15/2006 article about the power of the Internet. I am a 30-year fed (with no intentions of retiring for at least another 10 years--there's a lot of good work I want to contribute before I walk out of the door!)as well as a taxpayer. I have tried hard in my career to represent my agency and the American public to the best of my ability. Federal employees are VERY fortunate to have the jobs and benefits that we do. Most of us appreciate them most of the time, but it often takes only one negative situation for someone to bad-mouth the whole federal civil service system. Negative experiences have not diminished my appreciation for my employer. Feds should think carefully publicly whining & griping. Taxpayers who read or hear such public comments are often less well compensated--and should be righteously angry at the lack of appreciation for the good employment and benefits that their taxes--as well as ours--provide.

FedSmith provides an excellent forum for the exchange of information and opinions among Federal employees. Some of the comments prove to be more enlightening than the articles themselves! And yes, the grammar can be frightening at times. My main gripe with the comments is that too many participants rely heavily on ad hominem remarks (that is, attacking the person rather than the argument set forth). I enjoy reading well-reasoned assertions supported by facts, even if I happen to disagree with the commenter.

This article is an excellent example of our country's right to free speech and why it's important. After all, what kind of boring place would the world be if you didn't publish opposing and/or negative viewpoints? Keep up the good work, Fedsmith!

It seems like an informative, and entertaining medium. Many intelligent people make good comments. Some people may not have the best language skills, however it is easy to understand where they are coming from. Some are very challenged.
