RE; Dominick from the state of Washington, "Rudy takes care of people". Be careful what you wish for Dominick, and maybe you should ask all the civil servants of NYC (the cops and firemen he loves to make believe he cares about) just how Mayor Guiliani dealt with them, whenever their work contracts were up for renewal,or they were up for a pay raise. Here's a prediction for you; Rudy will self destruct (think Bernard Kerick), just give him time.

The republican spin and propaganda that is presented in this type of survey is what is destroying our American image and our country as number "one" in the world. The comment that indicated it was the socialistic solutions to problems is right on as far as the destruction of our democracy. American culture and prestige is on the down side of the bell curve. Why? Republican greed for money. Everything is about "money", i.e. what will put more money in the capitalist's pocket, not the American dream for a "middle class" entity. The Republican party would have the "rich" and the "poor". The poor would be the servants and hired hands or on charity. That's the way they want it. That arrangement is not democratic that is so loved by the core of Americans that have worked all their lives to pass on a system of fairness and prosperity to upcoming generations. PEACE in the world is to be strived for, NOT WAR and SUPRESSION and CONQUER. We MUST change our "problem solving" techniques.

What I find so funny (as in ironic) are all of these self-professed "values" voters (all of whom are middle-class if they're working for the Fed) expressing their love & admiration for candidates that posess none of the attributes they espouse! Most politicians - Republican or Democrat - are millionaires - at least the Dems seem to have a social conscience & view the poor as worthy of Govt help as opposed to cannon-fodder for the invasion du jour of the New American Empire.
Newt Gingrich!?!? Gimme a break - the guy's a serial philanderer & callous to boot! He delivered divorce papers to to his 1st wife (maybe his 2nd wife) while she was getting chemo! John McCain bends to any wind that blows.
Rudy G. hasn't a chance - his pro-choice stance will spell doom from the Gawd-n-Guns wing from the South. Strom Thurman is still alive & well to these people!
Ron Paul from Texas, a true Libertairian if there ever was one-doesn't have a chance, either, although I'd vote for him.

I am surprised by the comment that our preferred candidates do not have the values we espouse. Many of us like the idea of a society where merit is rewarded based on what we produce; not how much we can get from Congress. I prefer lower taxes and less intervention by government in our lives. The failure of the last Congress to live up to this idea is why many of us voted out existing politicians but that does not mean we like any of the Democrats who are generally in favor of higher taxes and more benefits for those that work less. I personally prefer Giuliani but would take the values of any of the listed candidates among the front running Democrats.

It is a mistake to assume that since we work for the government, we prefer a bigger government, bigger unions, higher taxes and more "rights" for any interest group with a bank book big enough to gain more benefits from legislation than from hard work and initiative.

Ron Paul has not shown strength in National polls simply because he IS NOT included in national polls. I won't take a poll without Paul in it and neither will many others. Try honesty in your polls and you'll get more accurate results!

"... they have not been showing significant strength in several national polls."

Recent Quinnipiac, Marist, ABC, and CNN polls show Huckabee and Brownback (included) at the same "strength" as Ron Paul (not included). A few others do not include Paul as an option, even though he has announced an Exploratory Committee and others have not (Gingrich).
Please include Congressman Ron Paul as an option.

The surveys seem to indicate that people are looking for a middle of the road candidate. Thus, hard core liberals, or hard core conservatives need to rethink their agendas.

Indeed. However, the party selection process will ensure that any candidate from either party will NOT be a moderate because the most fervent activists/zealots (right or left) will work to defeat anyone who doesn't look/walk/talk like them. I detested Nixon but, the guy was spot on about "the vast silent majority" of Americans that are, at heart, moderates or middle-of-the-road folks.
