"FedRent" Program Nabs SSA Employee

This article brings up a troublesome aspect of being a federal employee today. That is, are federal employees being unduly singled out by programs like "FedRent" because it is so easy for federal oversight organizations to gather information on federal employees from the government's own personnel information systems? Don't get me wrong -- upholding the public trust and integrity in federal employees is very important . . . but such oversight efforts should be presented with some balance to show comparable results for non-federal employees. For example, recent articles over the shameful frauds committed by a FEW federal employees abusing the federal commuter program did not present any comparisons to what is happening in private industry. Presenting such a balanced view is difficult because the fed must first obtain a subpeona from the judicial system before it can access private industry's personnel information systems, but not when the fed gathers info from its own info systems.

I agree why should Feds have to obey the laws?? The laws are for the poor saps in the private sector. let them pay the taxes so we can live the way we want, the gov't should be ashamed for even questioning our integrity. If we say we need it that should be enough.
The next thing you'll know they will start questioning our food stamps and SS disability we are collecting while working shame shame

A few years back I worked with a woman who filled out papers to get a HUD home. She let them know where she worked but indicated a much lower salary in order to qualify for the housing. She didn't know that they also sent a letter to her supervisor and payroll office that requested that they indicate her salary. The next thing I saw was the people with "guns and badges" escorting her out of the building. She was fired. Later she was working at the local fast food place. She was lucky that they didn't put her in jail.

P.S. It was not a Federal government job. She was not a Federal government employee - so it does happen to others but is not so well publicized.

What a joke! Federal salaries above the national average! Ha, Ha, Ha! I cannot stop laughing at that one...

But the truth is not very funny! The truth is, Federal employees are really the most underpaid in comparison to other employees in the same positions in other government and private organizations, especially in California!

California has the most expensive housing market and cost of living in the nation. In California, a 2 bedroom apartment can rent from $800.00 a month in an undesirable part of town to $3000.00 or more a month in a more upscale neighborhood.

I think those FedRent Initiative proponents are missing the big picture or trying to hide it! We won't see any executive level federal employees indicted in this one folks!

This is just another way to target the poor and middle class!

the housing prices in CA have dropped 40% over the past 18 months so I doubt the highest housing area any more. You also get the highest locality pay in the country so FEDs by and large are better paid than 75% of the work force in CA
