One reason I like to read the fedsmith site is because of articles like this. It is something I have not read anywhere else, it is related to the federal workforce and it shows us in a different, more human light that the day-to-day articles in the press.

Good off-beat article and some of the humor isn't bad! Marshal Henry may have a future as a comedian on HBO!

And here's some HR humor--isn't there language in the JER that states you can't use your Federal employment for personal gain????

I understand it to be that you can't gain from your position. This would be the position itself and your representation in it (you can't get paid by someone else to do your actual job or represent someone in your title). I can't see how this has any bearing on that. If that were the case, how could any one ever publish a book after finishing his/her service?

Wanda Sykes, HBO standup comedian, character on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiam" (Larry David's show, who also wrote "Seinfeld") was a GS-12 Buyer in LA before someone heard her at a coctail party and convinced her to try out for a comedy gig.
