It would be nice if this resolution applied to the Federal Court System. Federal probation and pretrial officers are considered public safety officers. Yet, we have no bargaining power whatsoever. We are appointed and work for the courts. We have our professional association and often lobby the powers that be. In the end we're left having to put our trust in the Adminstrative Office of the U.S. Courts. However, I'm not sure creating a union would improve upon our system. There would be a whole new set of issues and problems.
Bad idea

Great, more public employees can have jobs for life independent of performance. Unions are the best friends slackers will every have.

I am an active union member and I am greatly appreciative of what the union has done for the agency and its employees, but with that said the union seems to spend more time dealing with bad decisions from the Washington Office, than anything else. I believe that it would be a double edged sword. It would be nice to have the union to benefit the employees, but the inherent headaches dealing with the federal government would far out weigh any benefits.

We absolutely do not need another law. Apply and try
to enforce the laws you aready have concerning the need for safety of employees. This will be nothing but
money grab from workers.
STOP IT PLEASE!
Good for them!

I'm happy to see that First Responders will be able to unionize. Some readers are against it. Why? It only makes sense that they get a union to represent them. They bridge the gap between local services and federal agencies, especially in times of national crisis.
I'll admit that some unions abuse their power. When I worked at USPS the union and management always locked horns, if for no other reason than to spite each other. However, I work for another agency now, with a different union. This union works closely with management and the resulting work environment is very productive for employees and management. So it all depends on the union, the management, and how they can work together. Give the first responders a chance and stop assuming this bill will wreak havoc.
