Opening the Federal Health Plan to All Americans: How Do Federal Employees Respond?

How is opening up the FEHB to all American's going to benefit American's who still can't afford to pay the premium? There are numerous health plans available to people. If they don't have insurance because they can't afford those plans, why does Hillary think they will be able to afford the Federal plans?

Hillary expects WE should pay for those who can't afford it. I am thinking there is already a plan in place for those who can't afford health care, it's called welfare or free clinics.

How are these "all Americans" going to pay for their part of the cost of health insurance? I bet I know - they want us to pay! I don't think anyone should have free health care - if they have cell phones (and who doesn't?) and smoke, have premium cable TV channels, etc., they can pay something for health care.

This is not braggadocios. What would the government be like if we switched employees with each administration? What does it take to keep a long term competent employee? Answer; moderate pay and benefits to be able to live the American dream.

Allowing the rest of the US to access this government controlled system (not free market) with its monthly cost and co-pay would leave the sick indigent (the people that break our hearts) unable to pay. The “bureaucrat” pays plenty for this benefit.

How many “bureaucrats” don’t purchase this insurance? Is the system well run or abused? Why? For Senators, Congress and executives that receive $150,000.00+ annually this is a great buy. For the average “bureaucrat” an expensive benefit. I am sure if prices go up many will opt for the medical savings account and hospitalization insurance. What will happen to the system then?

We already have Medicaid and Medicare but eligibility for these prgrams are tied to income levels. Would it not make more sense to expand these programs to cover any one through a graduated income scale? Seems a more simple solution than allowing non federal employees into the FEHB system. This seems to be the very best option given that the basic framework is already in place and functioning. I'm not passing judgement on how well these systems function; but, opening the Medicaid/Medicare programs with a graduated payment option just might be the impetus needed for Congress to address and correct the present financial problems and health inusrance issues in the long term to the benefit of all. However, if the current Medicare/Medicaid financial problems can't be fixed, then creating additional problems by involving the FEHB system doesn't make sense by any stretch of the imagination.

I think that before the candidates put everyone in the FEHB program they need to find a way of curtailing the rising cost of medical care in this country. I'm sure a lot of people in the FEHB have had a love one who is sick and have looked at their insurance statements and seen the cost of procedures and doctor visits. When doctors are charging $250 for a routine visit or $35,000 for a pacemaker, no wonder why people can't afford to see a doctor.

FEFORM THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY FIRST.

You hit it on the head. As someone who has recently been diagnosed with two major health issues and been a 'good fed' for 28 years I totally agree with you.
Even I can barely afford the costs -- and dental is a joke! My doctors/dentists look at my insurance and almost laugh.
How am I going to retire -- even after being a fed, with the costs so high. Just one of the 12 prescriptions that I NEED is $120.00 for a 30 day supply. How can I even THINK of retiring if I can't afford the cost to keep myself alive.

I have no problem offering health benefits to kids of illegal immigrants IF either they or their parents pay for it or their country of origin pays for it. If we give the kids the benefits and they cost $5,000.00 a year, we bill the parents or Mexico that amount. If Mexico refuses to pay for their citizens kids health care we simply DEDUCT that amount from ANY aid we send them.

You have got to be kidding?!?!?!? Don't go postal on us!! Do you really think the country of origin really cares about their people? That's why they come to America. The land of milk and honey. The working slobs will be paying for these kids not their parents (who are already taking all they can from us because they can't afford anything!) Besides if the child of an illegal is born in this country these kids are American citizens! As far as witholding aid from the country of origin, that really made me laugh!!!! I have to agree with the Manager at USDA. He's got the right idea. Unfortunately his idea won't get any of the candidates the votes they're looking for. What a country!!!

I can’t believe you have no problems with providing benefits to kids of illegal immigrants. If there is a true life or death emergency, they can go to the emergency room. But, it’s ridiculous to think that Americans can provide everyone with free healthcare. And, that’s basically what you’re your saying. People are already coming to the US because we provide them with so many free benefits. This would only encourage more people to come here illegally.

As for decreasing aid we send to Mexico, we shouldn’t be sending them any money. We’re already taking care of so many of their citizens who are here illegally. Besides, the Mexican government publishes and distributes pamphlets/instructions on how to get into American illegally (best places to cross, where to get water and sometimes providing it, and maps at border, etc.). Come to think of it, the Mexican government is probably using some of the money we send them to publish the pamphlets.

I do not mind providing help to AMERICAN citizens in need or people who run into problems while here legally. And, I’m happy to donate to countries in need or to disaster areas. But, I do mind being taking advantage of.

If Congress is serious about solving the health insurance problem in America, why don't they let all Americans join THEIR health insurance program. The Congress and Senate do not belong to the FEHB program, but have their own, no doubt, fully paid health insurance plan. If the FEHB is so great for all Americans, why aren't they in it? I'll tell you one thing, put the representatives in Washington in the FEHB program and watch how quickly it becomes improved and FREE!!!
