If Congressmen and women had to pay ANYTHING for their health insurance, they would surely not support this incredibly expensive proposition. Maybe they could finance everyone with the money they are not paying for healthcare.
I do believe ALL Feds should have to pay, not just the majority of us who make under $75,000 /year.
I would be overjoyed to have free health insurance while making over $100,000 a year. I could actually buy a house! Plus, I could then retire with no financial worries, what a great life that would be!!!
Find another road to universal health care and leave us Feds alone.

This survey shows the hipocracy of the majority of federal employees who responded because they failed to realized that these same people in the public are the ones paying towards the government portion of their coverage. Furthermore, "All Americans" do not mean "unemployed." Where are the supply and demand believers? The increase number of participants would definitely reduced the cost.

You're an accountant - OUCH and OPM more OUCH - does it not occure to you that more people means more money for the insurance company - yet they don't want to take care of you if you get sick? Insurance companys of all kind are all about the dollars they can cheat you out of all your life - but when it comes to helping you when you need that help - NOT.

To the OPM Accountant - While it is true that supply and demand often results in a reduction in cost - it is also true that those costs are not always passed to the consumer.

Look at the FEHB program - there are millions of employees, yet we pay large premiums and deductables - medical reimbursement seems to be reasonable; however, we have no vision, hearing and limited dental - this is because OPM has opposed allowing it to be provided. They blame that insurance companies and the insurance companies blame OPM. The bottom line is that OPM can allow it but have chosen not to. It is sad because not having vision, hearing and reasonable dental coverage as a preventative option has lead to, in many cases, medical issues/conditions that cannot be corrected.

If someone wants the benefits from the FEHB then they should get a job with the Federal government. That would virtually elliminate any illegals getting benefits.

Welcome to the General Motors retiree senerio, federal workers version.

We all worked for years with the promise of our FEHB health benefits would be there for us. If it is opened to everybody in the country, it will be diluted to a welfare version. General Motors retirees had a contract, Federal workers had a contract for retirement, but guess what, they want to screw us out of it. As Transportation Specialist said above, if people want the FEHB, let them get a job with the federal government and work 20-30 years.

To the Program Analyst - Army, Your experiences with the insurance companies are not universal. There are others whose experiences are totally opposite your views of the insurane companies. Every barrel may have a few rotten apples but you would not throw out the whole barrel for a few rotten ones, would you? The government would have to set strong standards and regulations to ensure the services are provided fairly and honestly. They woud need to penalize the violators and drop them from the program. You are enjoying the benefits of tax payers money but not accommodating to other to enjoy the same. Shame on you.

"The government would have to set strong standards and regulations to ensure the services are provided fairly and honestly"

This is one of the most blatant reasons why Govt. managed health care is a bad idea.. The Federal Govt. is the LAST entity to turn to if you want something managed efficiently and effectively.

The subject is "Opening FEHB to all Americans". I did not see any mention of providing FEHB to any and all illegal immigrants.

How quickly we forget that this "America" was derived of immigrants. Your ancestors were immigrants and not all of them came here legally.

Did the Govt. provide benefits or other such entitlements to these ancestral immigrants who came here illegally as you assert?

As I recall, there were NO hand out programs when my ancestors immigrated here. It was called "pull yourself up by your boot straps get a job and take care of your own." It wasn't the gimmie gimmie you see now. Oh by the way, my ancestors did come here legally, learned the langue and assimilated to the AMERICAN way of life. I don't see anything wrong with that picture, do you?
