EASY SOLUTION

I propose an easy solution--we implement a new policy. For every day the budget is late, we dock every person's pay--to include the president. After 30 days, we fire them. These people were elected to do a job; and coming up with an annual budget is part of that job. If they can't accomplish this, we need to let them go. And, constituents--please pay attention to what your elected official is doing and vote accordingly. Also, go one step further and write to him/her to express your displeasure and dismay with the apparent lack of interest in performing the job they were hired to do. I am ashamed of all of them--republican, democrat--doesn't matter, once they get to Washington, they're all the same.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Embrace your furloughs.
You get to stay home and relax.
You will get paid because you signed a contract with the government.
Congress wants to play games & NOT sign the budget! BUT! You WILL still BE PAID.
This same thing happened just 11 years ago.
All the government employees stayed home and the government had to pay us for not working.
If Congressmen were true leaders: All of this would have been worked out -- long before the yearly budget signing. But these are NOT Leaders and they are NOT looking out for the American's best interest or all of this would have been resolved prior to the budget signing (this is another Congressal policial play).
So let Congress do all the politicing they want and play all the games they want.
The employees will be paid even if you set at home.
Congress does not care that this will cost more tax dollars and cost over runs to its USA Citizens.

the bias of this article is clear, when the writer talks about what parents of a child in Irag or Afganistan would want. he says they would probably prefer to have congress stay around to deal with budget issues regarding their safety (assumedly). I think what most of their parents would really want is for congress to do whatever they could, stay in DC or go home or whatever, to change this admininstration's stupid policies and bring their children home.

The article seemed to be to be objective and thoughtful. He did not attack or agree with the administration; rather, he took the position that the failure of Congress to act hurts all of us. That, somehow, became translated into bias because the person making the comment wants "to change this administration's stupid policies...." Glad to see the commentator is not biased but quick to apply the term to anyone trying to be objective and having the audacity not to agree with the commentator's own obvious prejudice.
Impact of Furlough on employees and customers

The author makes it sound as if a furlough is of minor impact and that last time was a just an opportunity for a shopping spree. The last furlough I was in lasted almost 3 weeks over the holidays. Many of the lower salaried employees I worked with were living pay check to pay check so there were no shopping trips but rather people worrying about how to pay for food and utilities not shopping for holiday gifts. It also impacted our customers - our nation's veterans who were concerned about their benefits. I recall that some prominent congressman laughingly stated that the gov't was closed and no one noticed. Trust me - the veterans noticed! As a taxpayer - I noticed and I would rather have gotten work done than sit worried at home. So please, before you make a furlough sound like a romp and an extra paid federal holiday, consider that real people and real customers can be impacteded in real ways far more worrisome than where to go shopping next.
