Actually though the law which established locality pay we were entitled to a 12-1/2% increase of which we actually got 1/2% and like the President before him (Clinton) he used lame excuses for not granting it. We are way behind the private sector and with massive retirements there is nothing to entice anyone into government service, especially when the Commander-In-Chief couldn't spell CAT if you spotted him the C and the T!

It seems to me that if they didn't give the day before as they have in the past when it falls on Monday that it may look as if the whole of the U. S. NON-essential Government worker were on a sick-out. essential employees such as postal workers and air traffic controllers will be hard at it, regardless of the weather or holiday. No rest for the weary or the wicked.

Wow. Another day off.

This would be a perfect day to look at my TSP and plan my day trading efforts for the coming year.

I enjoy making money, and letting everybody else pay the fees to shift my money around.

it's not politics, it's tradition - I put my leave in for the 24th, pretty much predicting that the day would be a federal holiday. Same thing happens when Christmas fall on a Thursday - Friday is also given. The end.

Now let me see if I understand some of the above comments:

If something BAD happens, then we are unhappy and bitter.

But also, if something GOOD happens, we are to find some reason to believe that it really doesn't count...and be unhappy and bitter.

So, I guess that unhappiness and bitterness is the secret to happiness? Some of you on this forum really need to write some self-help books! Think of the possible titles: "Bitterness: the Secret Path to Joy!"
