Congress should for once be more concerned about doiong their JOB rather than recess. What are they little kids that have to have a recess no matter what. They need to become more fiscally responsible and more concerned about properly running the government.

it's an honor to work for the federal goverment, but it's not a hobby. i can't pay the bills and if the anti-federal government attitude continues and the bills and the cost of living keep rising then there will be an exodus from public service. i don't know if there are a lot of wealthy people that want to step in and do the work of the people but it may come to that because i can no longer afford to work as a federal employee and stay alive. my savings are gone, mediacl costs are up, the price of food is up and people are fed up with bush's screwups.

I, and most of my co-workers, think that those working on the budget should not be able to take any holidays/vacations until the budget is passed. We also believe that there shoud not be a summer break until the next fiscal year's budget is passed. I know that if the budget is not passed before the Christmas break, I will make it a point not to vote for the congressmen and senators that now represent my state.

The president would just veto any budget from this Congress, anyway....

Again the comedians cannot compete with Congress for the silliness of their actions. Congress is a sea of egos and this is what happens no matter which party controls congress and the presidency as long as they are opposite parties.

All I can say is Prepare for a vacation next year that you weren't planning on

Since SecDef decided to split the pay raise for NSPS employees (half of the pay raise into the pay pool, and half across the board), all NSPS pay raise decisions are waiting for the budget decision. The pay pools cannot set or inform employees of their raise until the civ pay raise is known. I guess that means that supervisors can't complete their appraisal process, either, since the final step is informing the employee of the pay/bonus decision.

Just another little complication.

Is this how the chess game looks from the pawn's perspective? I'd rally for integrity in Congress if I thought they understood the word.

They call this the "NATIONAL SECURITY" Personnel System. Is it good for "national security" when their new process is jammed this way, & inflaming the anger of employees, & vaporizing their morale & good will?? I would say NO!!!

Under NSPS, if I don't do my job, my pay is cut. Congress should be held to the same standards; if they don't do their job (i.e., passing a budget), then their pay should be cut, too. As it is now, they are not affected as they won't be the ones scrambling around trying to meet every day living expenses.

They don't need to be taking a break; just lock them in a room without food or water until they get their job done.

It's a shame that politics has come to this. Both sides are to blame for not being able to reach a compromise. What the hell is this process anyway? If it doesn't go my way I don't want to play. Talk about a bunch of babies! Oh, and Mr. President, you too are at the very top of the list for blame. No vetoes in 6 years of his leadership and now he is going to veto everything. Give me a freakin break! The concept of statemenship alludes all parties involved. They all should have to re-take a course in Government & Politics, then they should be locked in a room with food and water (at least I have a heart). Nobody emerges until a budget is reached period.
