Unfortunately all types of "white collar" crime seems to be more frequent these days, and from higher level employees (not that higher level employees are any better than lower level, it's just that higher standards are EXPECTED from them). I think it is a reflection of our declining moral and ethical standards in this country.
I would submit that this is a privatre sector problem as well, not just a "government employee" issue.
What do you think??

Why control rent? Market should determine purchase. If you can't afford to live in the city you will be forced to move to where you can afford. There are many small towns that have homes and rental units available.
Quit subsidizing this mess. If they want the privilege of living in a city with high housing costs, they should develop work skills that will afford the income needed to meet that life goal.
I don't think Feds are over represented in this problem, just easy to find using modern investigative methods. It's harder to find fraud with other abusers such as those occupations that operate in a cash only exchange for services.

...the problem w/the federal govt that I've observed is that they claim to want "the best and brightest" workers--and when they get them, they go out of their way either to hold them back, sabotage their work, and/or ultimately force them out. The proof of that pudding will be when/if NSPS and P4P becomes a fait accompli.
If only supvrs/mgrs would learn how to do their jobs, so that the rest of us worker bees could do ours...

I think a major part of the image of the Federal employee has been influenced by the anti-Government rhetoric of politicians over the last few decades. What do you expect when politicians deride Federal employees as not-too-bright do nothings who live to enforce rules (which, by the way, come from laws that Congress passed & the President signed)?? How many private companies are there where the CEO denigrates his/her employees to the extent that U.S. Presidents and Presidential candidates have done? Is it any wonder that "the best and the brightest" don't want to work for the Federal Government?
I applaud OPM's efforts and the efforts of other Federal agencies to show people what Federal employees really do via the internet, TV ads, etc.
And, yes, it is a case of getting the Government we deserve when we allow & believe anti-Government-employee rhetoric.

How did the millions of people who have worked for the federal government get hired over the last five decades in no one knew how to apply for federal work. Some one not smart enough to research how to apply for a federal job may not be someone smart enough to work for Uncle Sam.

I believe also that it is not just the federal workforce, but a problem with societal decay in general. We have become the "me" generation, no, make that society. But that is to be expected when the children are raised by daycare operators because the parents have no time for them as they are too busy working to "get ahead." Remember when families had one car, one t.v., one radio, and the kids came home after school?

In no way am I condoning anyone who is illegally fraudulently securing rental subsidies from HUD but I would like to point out that the majority of these folks were/are single parent households. At least they were not steering contracts to companies that owed them money....
