Readers' Preferences Changing as Presidential Campaigns Move On

Romney & Mormons

Having lived in several other non-mormon states, I can, from having lived here for several decades, say this about mormonism: it is the most repressive religion I've had the misfortune of putting up with. Public statements made by Utah's overwhelming mormon elected officicals is that they do not believe in separtation of church and state.

In Utah, the elected officials routinely meet with "the church" officials to discuss issues being voted and discussed to get the church blessing. Anyone who believes that Romney will distance his religion from his beliefs and his church is just dreaming and has not lived in Utah or is blind to the truth. The mormon religion believes in controlling every aspect of non-mormons to the extent that they can pass laws and make policies that pass "the church's" blessings. Romney will do as "the church" dictates.

WHY have you excluded Mike Huckabee's photo from your Polling Point Poll?

FedSmith did not run photos of any candidates. You may be referring to one of the Google ads that may have appeared in the article for some readers but these are not controlled by our company.

Sad commentary indeed when people express opinions that have no basis in fact. Barak Obama is not, and never has been a Muslim. He is a Christian, not that religion should matter AT ALL - we are all Americans. Also, he was not "sworn in with a Koran," nor did he "refuse to salute the flag. My own preference is "none of the above," but people really ought to have sone idea of what they are talking about before expressing opinions. sadly, this kind of ignorance will play come election day

I have not decided who I'm voting for yet but please stop giving credence to the false comments about Barack Obama by repeating them. He was not sworn in on a Koran. He is a practicing Christian not Muslim. He does recite the Pledge of Allegiance and has been shown both with and without his hand on his heart during the National Anthem. People need to check out snopes.com or similar sites before spreading every Internet rumor they see. This uninformed, hysterical fear-mongering is just one example of what's wrong with this country right now.

I agree. I am still on the fence on who I'm voting for, but these blatant lies against Barack Obama are ridiculous. He is a practicing Christian, and has been a member of a church in Chicago for the past 20 years. He did not refuse to salute the flag. One is supposed to put their hands over their hearts during the Pledge of Allegiance--not necessarily during the Star Spangled Banner. People need to get their facts straight before passing judgement.

I don't know about whether or not Obama did that, but I do know that it is the proper practice to place your hand over your heart along with removing your hat while the national anthem is being played. You should also stand if physically able.

That's a matter of simple respect, ask any Boy Scout.

As a former Marine for 11 years, I would expect any presidential candidate to stand and face the flag, take their hat off and place their hand over their heart. To stand their and do nothing is disrespectful to all veterans who have died to keep our flag flying. To me, it is as natural as breathing air to do this ritual and for someone of this stature to not, is enough for me to not vote for him and encourage as many others to follow my lead. Semper Fi

Thank you, I stand corrected.

It has been stated several times that it was NOT Obama that didn't salute the flag. It's okay if you don't want to vote for him (you probably weren't anyway), but before you encourage others to NOT vote for him, please get your facts straight.

The big Las Vegas Culinary union endorsed Mr. Obama. The Nevada Democratic "machine" has openly endorsed Mrs. Clinton. A last minute law suit was filed to prevent caucusing at the big strip casinos, where most culinary members work. An obvious effort to impede their efforts. The law suit came from the Clinton side. I am one Nevada democrat who prefers Edwards or Obama. This devious stunt just hardened my views against Clinton. If she ends up, as the democrat nominee, I am praying for Michael Bloomberg, or another 3rd party candidate. NO WAY will she get my vote!!!!

After reading many of these misinformed and misconstrued comments, no wonder we are going to hell in a hand basket! People actually believe so much misinformation, no wonder the Bush buddies have been able to bleed this country dry and contract it out overseas over the past 8 years. Obama isn't a Muslim-he is a Christian, of course he recites the pledge with his hand over his heart-the published picture was of something else, and it was a senator from MINNESOTA, the only Muslim in the senate, that used the Koran. And to all of those who say he doesn't have the experience - we have had a president for 8 years who has never even had a real job! Get over it.

You are ranting about people posting "misinformed and misconstrued comments" and then you do the same with your comments "no wonder the Bush buddies have been able to bleed this country dry and contract it out overseas over the past 8 years" and "we have had a president for 8 years who has never even had a real job!"

Bush did not act alone in going to war in Iraq; Congress should take a share of the blame and that includes both Democrat and Republican members. And if you think that Bush has never had a real job, then a lot of other politicians in both parties haven't had one, either.

I suggest, too, that you read the Federal Acquisition Regulations so you'll have a better idea of how contracting is done. Talk about "misinformed and misconstrued"; no, you are just ignorant.

When you correct other people you should get your own facts straight. It was Congressman Keith Ellison from Minnesota that took his oath on the Koran. To my knowledge there have been no Muslim Senators, yet. Hopefully that will change someday because religion becomes a non-issue when running for public office.

All of the readers who are spouting about Barack Obama being a radical muslim and saying that he won't recite the pledge or place his hand on a bible, should really check your facts when you receive these bogus, made up emails used to frighten folks just like you. Check your facts before you spread gossip. Just because you receive it in an email doesn't make it true!
