I left the government for two years and returned in 1985. I have almost 37 years of government service and now have been told that since I did not pay back what I took out plus interest I now owe the government more than $35,000! I unfortunately came back the year when the interest rates were the highest. The worst part is when I returned no one in HR told me about the repayment option. Many of my co-workers are facing the same thing and were never told. Even HR said that they do not make it a habit to inform returning employees about the payback. Not a nice way to end my long government career.

If you left in 1981 and pulled your 7 years of CSRS retirement and returned as FER employee in 1995, the article says they will count the CSRS years and reduce annuity by actuarial amount for amount pulled plus 3% annual interest. What I don't read is are those CSRS year retirement annunity calculated at the CSRS formula or FERS formula and what high-3 are used ... the high three under CSRS in 1981 or current high-3 under FERS.

I made a withdrawal of $6,000 from my rretirement funds for a hip replacement surgery recovery. I am a SCRS employee. First, what would be the impact on my annuity (I am 54 with 25 years federal service)? Second, how do I arrange to pay this amount back, and what would be the impact if I don't?

I was injured at work 12/27/1991 and was continually on Federal Workmens Compensation. I returned to work 5/20/2001. My service record is unbroken. However, during the time I received Workmens Compensation, I did not contribute to Federal Retirement. I now have 33 years of service and plan to retire in three years. Will this period of time on Workmens Compensation affect my high three years and the amount I will receive for my retirement? Thank You.

I worked under CSRS for 10 years. I withdrew the
amount. This was 1975-1985. I returned to the PO
under CSRS offset in 1993. I will be eligible to retire
in 2010. I was not ever asked to re-deposit the money
or told what the amount is. I cannot figure out how
to calculate any change this would make to the amount
of my monthly retirement annuity.

How would you advise a person to pay back what they owe in redeposit. Where would a person take out loan for amount of the redeposit.

A year or so ago OPM stopped giving receipts for CSRS redeposits. Something about their new computer program. I stopped making my redeposits because I didn't know if they were really being credited. Now Pay.gov can be used to make online payments. It gives an email receipt, but still not getting balance still owed. So I know they're getting the money, but when will they ever start again giving running balances like they originally said they would?
