Planning Can Be Fun
The Best-Laid Plans of Mice and Men
A Big One

Strategic planning can be interesting in much the same way as undergoing a root canal -- interesting but definitely not fun. This is especially true when attempting to engage political appointees and their lackeys in the planning process. All they want to see are short-term, often superficial results as opposed to methodical and long-term outcomes. The true leader, one who has a clear vision, can communicate the vision, and devote the time and resources to effecting meaningful change through strategic planning is a rare person. Our current president has an unenviable gift of selecting the most clueless individuals to serve in positions of leadership. Blind loyalty to his twisted agenda takes precedence over planning.
God bless consultants and academics. For without them we only would see the harsh realities of poor leadership in the federal government.

It's just amazing to see such examples, over and over again, of how those like "Planner", suffering from severe "Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS)" can never simply stick to the topics in the article without finding some way to trash our President. The article contains very good advice for developing real plans.
It is clear that "Planner" is either a "planning consultant" or an academic, or both living off contracts awarded by the very "political appointees and their lackeys" that he expresses so much hatred for. I conclude this because, as a career employee, I would never have contracted to an "expert" to come in and develop a strategic plan for my agency.
The best plans, the ones actually implemented, aways come from the very troops charged with getting the job done.
