Accessing the agencies core mission documentation for personal or trivial reasons doesn't seem to bother the people over at the Passport office. Maybe she just worked for the wrong agency.

She knew what the consequences were for snooping. Why didn't she hire a private detective? Or she could/should have called some relatives. Nothing is worth you losing your government job.

This is appalling to me, and one of the primary reasons I am strongly opposed to contracting out collection of taxes to private collection agencies. How much less will those individuals care about breaching that all-important public trust if this FEDERAL employee didn't?

Why wasn't this individual prosecuted? Recently, an IRS revenue officer in Connecticut, one I had worked next to, was prosecuted for this and is awaiting sentencing. After all the meetings in which this subject was mentioned, all the acknowledgments that are signed off on employees confirm awareness of this, and not to mention notices stuffed in our pay stubs, how can anyone be so stupid. They have thrown away their career in, may in middle age. Who will hire them except places like Mac Donalds or Dunkin Doughnuts

We constantly get reminders about accessing records. Each year we sign another statement. I recently audited our confidential records to verify that the employees had done so correctly and found an employee had accessed several family members' records plus an ex in law's record. She felt she should have been given a 2 suspension, SSA was about to terminate her when she decided to resign. How many warnings do people really need to understand that there is no tolerance? Mr from Naval Oceanographic the passport incidence was contract employees. Another reason to hire those that are routinely screened and the Federal agencies can deal with properly.

If this was indeed a valid point, then there should be an office/agency too address this in locating the missing person. If it is a medical emergency then I believe she should have been place on a different assignment with the possibility of removal as the end result. But if this is truly for personal reasons as to get someone then justice was serve. I am glad this is in place so no one can go and look up your tax return for person gain. Now she knows rules are rules and no chances to do it again.
