Yeah, April 08 was a good month for the TSP funds. (finally)
First overall up month out of the last SIX.
The TSP stock funds are still reflecting a NEGATIVE 12 month return.
Only the G, F and L income funds show a YTD gain.
Maybe the market is turning around. (don't think so, just a head fake..) Normally the next 4 months are the worst of each year on average. This year is NOT NORMAL. There may be one more big gasp down before the turnaround. No one really knows for sure.
Be CAREFULL OUT THERE...

The market is what it is; a roller coaster ride with thrills and spills. No sense in trying to second guess it; too much time and assumption goes into those guesses. The benefit of dollar-cost averaging is that fixed amount of money put into the TSP each pay period is not attached to emotion. It automatically buys at the market price, be it high or low. However, over time the "average" cost per share is generally lower than the market price at a given moment - this is good when selling into a rising market. This is also why transfering a block of shares to the "safety" of the F or G fund is not a good idea under this theory because at the time of transfer in or out, all of the transferred shares acquire the sale price meaning a very large chunk has a price difficult to off-set with new shares.

If they want us to have a really good TSP, give us the ROTH. The TSP board is undstanding the value to many lower paid individuals of having a ROTH. If someone is in the 15% tax bracket today, they would pay a lower tax percetage than when they retire. When many of us feds retire with our nice pensions, social security and no dependents will put us in a higher tax bracket. So come on and give us what many of us have been asking for along time. I know the value of it, I was the TSP board did, stop waiting
