Bob----was there any real purpose to your article? if you wanted to notify your readers of Cabaniss' resignation fine. But why be sarcastic/antagonistic towards Carol Pope? Should she quit her job because no decision can be issued? It is not her fault that the administration and congress do not treat the FLRA as a priority in filling positions. She will continue to review memoranda and decisions and vote on them and wait for new members to do the same. That is all she can do. But to insinuate she should not be paid because there is nothing to do is wholly unfair and impinges your own credibility as a commentator.

Don't Americans deserve a government that works? It is hard to understand why our governmental agencies are so crippled by the lack of effective management by this current administration. I'm suprised that someone did't come out to say "You're doing a good job Dale"

Gilson's turning of the July 14 resignation of Authority head Cabaniss into a rant against the one remaining member of the Authority must make even his supporters at FedSmith wonder which way his head is screwed on. In the destruction of federal labor law that the Bush administration has accomplished through its appointments to the Authority, to the FLRA's General Counsel and to the FSIP, Authority Member Pope's well reasoned dissents to terrible Authority decisions has been the one slight bit of legal integrity that has shown through the whole mess of the last eight years. If that mess is now crumbling, so be it. But don't try to besmirch by unjustified innuendo what has stood the test of recent years of darkness.

The author isn't ranting against the remaining member of the Authority--he just points out she won't be issuing any decisions and won't have much to do. As issuing decisions is the primary function of the agency and it won't be performing its primary function but we will be paying her salary even though Congress has not seen fit to take any action on the President's nominees that would make the agency functional.
Pointing out the truth of the matter isn't popular--but it is accurate. Your beef should be with Congress and not the author of the article.

Gee Bob, the FLRA is in the toilet and you choose to focus on what the remaining member might do with her time? How constructive. Oh, and she's the remaining "Democrat" member? I guess that's because the "Republic" member resigned. What else you got on the Fox News Talking Points Memo there, Bob?

Mr. Gilson, your suggestions about how Member Pope will occupy her time are inflammatory. Member Pope has proven herself to be a dedicated, hard-working FLRA official. Anyone familiar with the agency knows that any suggestion otherwise is completely false and baseless. I feel confident that Member Pope will continue to review cases and vote them as necessary. It is not her fault that her Republican counterparts abandoned ship, leaving her with no quorum of votes.
