Thank you for clarifying some issues Ralph. It always amazes me how many think that because they read (but not comprehend) a brief article about a topic, it is already the law of the land.

The contractor hired to handle the TSP is enough (largest holding in C is financials?!?!!?!?). I like the Roth IRA (COUGH*FREQUENT TRADER ISSUE*COUGH), but adding friends and family to the mix, or those who buy their way in is an even worse idea.

Why does the FDA need authority ovrer Tobacco

Will someone please explain why the FDA needs authority over the tobacco industry.

Obviously it is a consumer item that has no food or nourishment properties.

I am missing the reason why the FDA should have oversight responsibility over the tobacco industry.

To me it would make more sense to align tobacco with the pharmasudical or chemical industry, who knows maybe pfizer or one of the big ones can come up with a good use for tobacco.

good use for tobacco: wet some and put it on a bee sting to relieve the pain. Better yet, get rid of tobacco and just use a paste of water and meat tenderize. Can't think of a single good use for tobacco......

Have you ever bought a firearm through a licensed dealer? If you have, you should be familiar with the ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record, Over-the-Counter). Line 11.e. reads "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, OR ANY OTHER CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE?" (CAPS are for emphasis.) You may or may not buy into the theory that the U.S. Government is anit-gun rights (2nd Amendment). Should the FDA declare tobacco a "CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE", then this would POSSIBLY be a legal way to reduce the number of "legally purchasing gun buyers". Just like not letting our vets with PTSD buy weapons. Perhaps it's not a "need" for the FDA to have "oversight" of tobacco. Perhaps it is a higher Executive Branch conspiracy in collusion with the United Nations. If you trust the BATFE (yes, those guys who initially orgy-strated the Ruby Ridge and Waco attacks), then please - go ahead and let our ever trust-worthy Govt. pass this legislation.

Why wasn't the TSP set aside as a trust

I was wondering about why the TSP was not set-aside as an untouchable trust fund that no one could mess with. Why was it not set apart that way, where members of congress can use part the funds. I thought this was a fund for federal employees only?

Dont fix that which aint broken!
Tobacco is not a food or medicine...conventional wisdom. However it may take a long and lucrative study to figure it out.
Congress vamoosed out of DC leaving a lot undone! Especially in the area of fuel and energy. It did not go unnoticed. My congress person may have to move back to Philly...come January. The next congress may be a little more practical and productive, hopefully!

I'm very curious - do you think Senator Obama & Senator Biden will vote for HR 1108?

Do you think they will be for the bill or be against the bill?

I've sent emails to both Senators - I may never hear back from either of them. I'm wondering what you think based on your knowledge of these gentlemen.

Thank you.
