I'm curious how this is an official government website given that the president elect is not a government entity? Is this not a federal law violation? Or is this just the first indication of an Obama administration not worrying about pesky things such as the law?

But since the comment was about the "law" and .gov domains -- the GSA administers .gov domains (http://www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/contentView.do?contentType=GSA_BASIC&contentId=8185&noc=T).
GSA is responsible for registration, validation, processing, activation, administration, and maintenance of .GOV, second-level domain names. I think they've probably vetted President Elect Obama's use of the .gov domain.

People who lump others together into one stereotypical bucket tend to be lacking in basic common sense.

I have not seen other senator's or prior president-elect's having their own .gov domain (let alone being named some indistinct, ethereal, something such as 'change.gov') IRS rules on 501c's aside. So, Just the Facts, thanks for your answer.
To the rest of the replies:
I was hoping partisan bickering and general ugliness would be over after the election. Apparently winners can still be losers....

Since Obama was a professor of Consititutional Law at Harvard he probably has a grasp of what is allowed. Also, if you read the site you will see it is produced by the Obama-Biden Transition Project, a 501c4 entity. 501c4's are a common type of non-profit organization that can engage in lobbying or political campaigning and are considered social welfare organizations than can be governmental. See the IRS info : http://www.irs.gov/charities/nonprofits/article/0,,id=96178,00.html
The site has an amazing amount of info.

Will this new website keep a log of how many campaign promises aren't kept?
