Yes I would like an extra Holiday BUT c'mon what makes us special the cost of this at this time and with our economy the taxpayers can't afford it. We will probably get a day off when they crown the messiah and anti-christ on Jan.20 and who do you think will be paying for that forbidding event.

The comment section which applies to the article on Christmas cards is NOT where they want you to respond to whether or not the President will give us the day after Christmas. There is a survey to the right of the article.

So what? Sounds like you need a day off. :)

I for one doubt we'll get the 26th off given the economic situation and for mailing Christmas cards, who can afford it?

We should not get Dec 26 off. The country is in a recession for goodness sakes! What a complete waste of money, and embarassing if the President actually does it. Also, Dec 26 is the day AFTER Christmas. That's not a holiday.

In case no one has notice. Bush has already signed the Executive Order to give us the time off after Christmas. He just hasn't announce it, yet.

No executive order has been issued. There is an unsubstantiated that it will be issued; another version is that it has been issued. If it has been signed but is still within the inner sanctum of the White House, it has not yet been posted anywhere that any of the search engines can find.

At this point, it is wishful thinking--although there is certainly a chance that the President will decide to issue such an order.

Where is the editor getting the idea that there is "wishful thinking" involved? Maybe people just want to be informed, yea or nay, so they can proceed with their plans. For supervisors, this might mean that one of their subordinates has to have use-or-leave annual leave restored next year, which is an administrative headache - something the politicians who get elected President don't take into account when making their grandiose gestures.

Maybe it's the fact that so many people are posting the question to this site, obviously salivating at the thought of getting another day of paid vacation time this year...

Would they have posted reponses to this site if the editor hadn't decided to run the "poll" attached to the article - which didn't have anything to do with the issue in the first place?

Probably so, given the importance so many federal employees are placing on the issue. Can't you just be happy we have a resource that provides us information on this and other topics? I don't see why you have to give the issue a negative spin...

I don't think I'm the one giving this a "negative spin". If anything, the introduction of this topic is little more than the editor's attempt to play on negative stereotypes of federal employees as a group of simpletons overly concerned with whether they're going to get a day off on the 26th. As one of the earlier posters(?) pointed out, its become traditional for whatever President happens to be in office to declare the date a holiday if it falls on a Friday (or if Christmas Eve falls on Monday). Therefore, what's the big deal? Why the attempt to stir up artificial controversy? Is it a PR issue? If so, would any Fed-hater think any better of Feds as a whole if the 26th were just another workday?
