My answer to the title question is "no" -- it's illegal and immoral for me to have a spouse.

You see, I'm gay and would never think of marrying a woman for cover. It's also illegal for me to marry a man.

Result is that those who can marry have an even greater benefit pool to drink from.

When I have 30 years in CSRS retirement in 2 years I was not going to retire but planned to work in DOD NAFI for another 5 years overseas. Who would know what impact this new information might have on my plans. No one in my HRO office does retirement counseling anymore and the HRSC will not answer mixed CSRS/NAFI questions. OPM also does not handle NAFI questions.

I have read that an ex-spouse is not eligible for survivor benefits if they remarry before age 55 can you verify this for me?

I don't understand the problem. I have survivor benefits from my ex-husband, as part of our divorce settlement. Does this affect me?
