Gov't has never generated a job that has ever done society any long term good. Money used to fund gov't only reduces the $$ available for the private sector to do what it does best.

I agree with you totally with both of you. Government has always been a big problem to me. I would rather pay large bonuses to CEOs of failing companies than hire DEA and FBI agents, SEC enforcement personnel, IRS and Treasury Agents. These people do nothing but stop people like me that want to provide goods and services to others that want them. While these CEOs create trickle down their bonuses to my customers.

you could quit. This would be a good start on restoring our "beast" to some semblance of what our forefathers envisioned, a place where all could work, worship and live without fear from its enemies or its government.

Too bad this bill isn't going to create jobs. The bill does very little in that regard. However, it goes a very long way in paying back the special interest and liberal groups that support Barack Obama. Nothing like paying off your debt with someone elses money.

The whole stimulus is not about helping out the people that need it, its about growing the welfare line and increasing dependance, which translates to more votes for Dems. If we want to stimulate the economy and I have to ay for it, then at least use it for something good. I will take the 90% reduction in my mortgage! I will even lower that to 80%, either way this will allow me to look at other things that I need to get done, including putting a new roof on, remodeling the kitchen etc. This will put additional $ back into the system and put people to work tomorrow, not in a few years (as with the $ for new schools and infrastructure). Look for the Truth.

Mr. Armstrong is not current in his message. This is the same drivel that got us into the current mess. Ireland's economy has collapsed in a giant construction and housing bubble and is now one of the weakest in Europe. The Euopean countries in the best shape right now are the more socialistic ones. You are a dinosaur Mr Armstrong, read the news!

BLM, I had the same thoughts when I saw Ireland mentioned. But the author is only wrong in his corporate focus. We now know that tax breaks on multinationals and "too big to fails" do not produce jobs so much as irresponsible speculation. But consider this - if smaller businesses are given a break, they are more likely to invest in their neighborhoods. So the author is only wrong in his assumption that all businesses will use extra money for internal USA investments. Perhaps we should look at the policies and not the talking points. The "how and who" of tax breaks may very well produce jobs. Don't count them all out just because a foolish policy produced disaster.

I've always marveled at anti-big-government polemics coming from the mouths of those who are basically on the government dole - and monitoring their government retirement accounts throughout the day.

I'm in the private sector and I believe in the United States government and in the ability of government (from Defense to the Park Service to the National Institute of Health to the Social Security Admin.) to do good for this country and it's citizens.

I have the private sector (and Federal negligence) to thank for all these bad bank loans (they made their metrics!) and toxic waste sites and no-bid contracts that pick my pocket.

I wonder what the Diversity Manager's job/salary prospects are in the private sector. Would they be okay with her/him reading and commenting on FedSmith during the work day? Without a "big government", would anyone care about diversity in the workplace?

The same folks that created the requirement for Diversity in the 1st place wrote the legislation that caused the sub prime loan problem. Are you saying our liberal tax and spend Democrats don't know what they are doing?? PBS did a story on Barney Frank calling him the smartest man in gov't.
While the concept of SOME government is good the taxpayers don't agree with you the last poll said that fewer than 25% of the taxpayers had a favorable few of CS and onlt 15% thought government was doing a good job

Sounds to me that you can be bought, Mr. DM (or is it DK?). If the people who require diversity are the same type that caused the subprime mess then you should stand on your beliefs and refuse to work for them and get a job in the private sector. Or do you like the annual raises, vacation time, medical benefits, and no fear of losing you job you complain about too much?

You once again do me and other Neapolitan Conservatives a great favor. You assume that the readers of this blog do not know that the Community Reinvestment Act was passed 5 years before Barney Frank was elected to Congress. Also your rant on the tax and spend liberals was excellent. I much prefer the Neo-Conservative borrow and spend. That way the bill will ultimately fall on the next generations and those foreigners stupid enough to buy our bonds. Together we must stand on the five pillars of neo-conservatism ( Gay Marriage, Death Penalty, Flag Burning, Abortion, and Socialism) to gain back what was lost.
