Dave, your bias is showing. I'll concede there were excesses during the Clinton/Gore "reinvention" days that we're still reeling from, if you'll concede the excesses of the incoming Reagan administration (which you didn't mention). Just as with the Carter inauguration, that transition was accompanied by a "freeze" which was short-lived, but followed by the infamous Grace Commission, not to mention Donald Devine as OPM Director. Say what you will about Clinton, he did not come into office with a virulent "government (and by extension govt employees) is the problem" attitude. That mindset, more than anything else, has created the problems we face today in recruitment of the younger generation.

Ok, I'll agree that Dave is definitely showing a right-leaning bias. But c'mon, let's not pretend that Clinton came in with the warm and fuzzies for Fed employees. We lost 400,000 employees. No other time in my 20 year career were there so many RIFs. I survived 2 myself. They privatized functions, contracted out functions, cut support functions beyond repair, built a facade of "team leaders" to reduce management layers, increased pay for performance, and told everyone to do more with less--as if we were just slacking off before. And now we don't have the skills to do some of the basic functions of government. Those who do have needed skills are all getting ready to retire if the economy ever comes back and we have no one to backfill because we have no benchstrength. Bush sure didn't make it any better (though our ranks grew during his time) but Clinton started many of the problems. He may have talked a good game about employee relations, but his actions spoke volumes.

Apparently you didn't notice the Clinton administration's aversion to intelligence gathering agencies and the military. He managed to eviscerate them quite handily.

Global Warming does not equal snowstorms

Trying to tie the snowstorm you are currently experiencing to validating or refuting the fact of global warming demonstrates your utter lack of understanding of the effects of global warming. Global warming is science, not anecdotal observations of how many snowstorms you experience in a single winter.

Global warming is science huh? Well then it's outdated science. Because the new science has found that it's more likely we're heading towards an ice age than any kind of catastrophic global warming.

Global warming=propaganda

And I think the author's mention of the snow storm was anecdotal...I don't think you, or anyone else, needs to educate him to the "effects of global warming". That's all been shoved down our throats enough over the last 15 years or so...I think we got it.

is fatally flawed science based upon flawed models. Until you figure out that the climate clowns are left over anti-war hippies that needed a new home after the wall fell and decided environmenalism gave them a warm and fuzzy, you'll never be able to discern the difference between a con and truth. All global warming is, is an opportunity for Al to make a few bucks.

Rather than going off on tangents that aren't pertinent to the articles title ... like the Clinton staffers removing the 'W's (like somehow that's relevant to the article) ... why didn't you just lay out the hiring information from previous adminstrations (and maybe from both parties) and how it may or may not relate to a possible hiring freeze?

I am neither Democrat or a Republican and I get really tired of this 'football game' mentality.

Why would anyone consider this promise to be more likely kept than any of the other promises made thus far. All of those have been broken. You know ethics, transparency, lobbyists out, tax evaders in (oh wait that last one is true but it wasn't promised was it). I agree a window dressing freezing is likely but the only freeze we seem to be actually experiencing is the one on the 09 budget. We are still on CRs!

Although you need warm air aloft (>20000ft) to move over cold air at the surface (<36F) and temperatures at or below zero from surface to 1200ft to make snow, you might question "what ever happened to the global cooling scare of the 80's?" Al Gore and his all knowing "scientist" now have figured another way to scare the population. The jury is still out on global warming and you will find as many "scientist" that vote CON as you do YEA.
