It is been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Presumably, all of the bills addressing the same subject in some way will be merged or coordinated before anything is passed into law.

USAF Test Control is correct.
HR 1256 sec. 407 applies ONLY to VA Nurses.

HR 958 Sec. 2 applies to all retirees under 5 USC 8412, 8414 and 8415.

Lets hope the general application of HR 958 wins the day!!

I agree that smoking is not a good habit. I agree that we should always strive to improve our culture. I believe that government, and cost to tax payer should only take action based on real scientific fact. I cannot object strongly enough against methods used to promote projects that are based on untrue allegations (tobacco). I know plenty of smokers that are at work much more than non-smokers. I know a smoker that has 1,300 sick leave hours on record, and this person will be unjustly penalized. This action is discrimination!

Finally, Congress may have gotten it right. Instead of having all the rules about hours in excess of 500, they simply will apply the same rule as CSRS.

It was so simple, its a shame it took them this long to figure it out.

I wish federal employees would stop throwing around the word "discrimination" over the differences in the retirement systems. Try being thankful that you haven't needed to use up your sick leave. Try being thankful for having a decent retirement plan. Those of us under FERS knew the rules when we started working under this system. It's still a good retirement program. Better than a lot (if not most) of those in the private sector.

......... continuing to monitor any language in any bill that might affect the Thrift Savings Plan. You are so right on that Congress is salivating over this pot of money; we have heard that mantra before. We definitely do not think this money belongs to Congress - well, ok, the 1% gov't matching might so be construed - but the rest of it shouldn't be so considered. It is a part of our hard-earned earnings as contracted when we were hired. Or so I would like to beleive. Again, I appreciate Fedsmith updating us and even shouting out an alert for contacting our respective Congressional representatives should anything begin to look crooked in this matter. We don't want our retirement monies going to the wayside as predicted for Social Security funds which is oft borrowed against to balance the buget. Thank you.

CSRS employees didn't always get to add unused sick leave to their retirement annuity calculation. When Congress changed this, they increased the employee contribution to their retirement fund to offset the costs. A similar increase would be the only fair way to add this benefit to FERS. However, changing FERS to add the unused sick leave benefit would violate a core principle of FERS. That is to make its benefits very portable when switching to private sector employment.

Congress needs to be able to tap these funds to pay for this increased benefit for FERS it makes sense that rather than asking the taxpayers for more subsadies for federal workers this should be self funded. CS should relish the opportunity to help out. I know I am

That money in no way belongs to Congress or to the "people of the United States". It is an investment fund that belongs solely and expressly to the PARTICIPANTS.
Any use or "tapping" of these funds other than proper investment is illegal theft by diversion, a criminal act that must be prosecuted if it occurs!!
