The human resources clerk from Ft. Campbell, KY must not have been reading the same newspapers, magazines or watching the same TV reports that the rest of the world were looking at. People were excited as in happy about the election of Pres. Obama. I am hearing rumors that a lot of the military bases in the south refuse to post the new President's picture unless Obama actually visits that installation. That sounds like Dereliction of Duty among other things. I should know, I too work for the DoD.

I have read some of the responses submitted by the readers, in my opinion they are mostly biased in both directions. It is far too early to tell if his policies will be effective but extreme times calls for extreme measures, let's just hope they are the correct measures. What Obama is doing, some call socialism, has been done before in difficult times.
The failing banking situation we are in is the result of greed and leveraging in the financial sector designed to create huge profits for the banks has gone unchecked for years, this happened due to poor government regulations. I believe in capitalism, it has helped to make this country great, but when the cat's away the mice will play. Think how many thieves there would be if not for the police.
As a former government employee I also think the readers remarks are basically the result of their prejudice of their own political party lines.
At least it can be said that Obama is not fiddling while Rome burns.

A blind eye is constantly in the forefront. Doen't our politicians see what we are allowing to happen to this country. With our heads buried in the sand, we are increasing our debt, and giving up our freedons. Our constitution is out the window. With out recognizing our current laws, we are coming apart at the seams. Now no one seems to care enough to do anything about it. Trying to get our senators, and representatives to do the right thing, is not happening. Obama, I wish you were the breath of fresh air everyone was talking about! But I think not. We need hjelp right away!

God help us to survive these four years!!! Where is congress? They were designed to act as a check and balance. They are as far out to lunch (LEFT) as obama!

This seems a little like locking the fox in the hen house.

I think i remember people saying the same thing when the republicans took control of congress. I guess the last time this happened to the other side it wasn't just the fox in the henhouse, it was the fox, their relatives, their contractors, their friends, their friends that helped get them elected, their friends who think america is in a state of failure because we have a gov't , their friends..... Come on. lets at least try to get original and not follow the party line

Congress was right there manipulating the funds in their favor. Deep pockets for Fat politicians. This is not entirely either Presidents fault. They both had lots of help.

Whether I voted for Obama or not is irrelevant now. He is my President because the election process my country uses determined that. I love my country, with all of its imperfections, and I support my President. That said, although I approve of his willingness to move assertively to take on the big issues and am hopeful his leadership will be successful, I am skeptical and withhold my approval until I see more tangible results of success. He is still setting things in motion, and the results are several months, even years away from being rationally evaluated.

Many commenters/voters unfortunately latch onto words like "socialist" without actually understanding or caring about their true meaning. To be socialist is to believe in redistributing the wealth. What is the role of the Federal government, but to collect the taxes in a central location and redistribute the money to the states and pay for other federal priorities, which the taxpayer may or may not approve of. The Government has been doing this for years - redistributing the wealth from those of us who work to those of us who don't for whatever reason. Unless, voters want to change our system of government then I would expect them to go along with the current situation and try to have an impact on those issues and programs that they believe should or should not be funded and stop crying about words like "socialism" that they truly don't understand.

Although I didn't bother with this poll, I'm somehow reassured by the split. At this point, I'd prefer a President who is willing to take the risks that would displease a large segment of the FedSmith respondents who are, as a group, more to the right than the country as a whole. This is someone who has beliefs and is willing to lead - whether you like the direction he is going or not. Give him a chance - there's a big mess to be cleaned up & it won't be resolved in 100 days or six months.
