There are no disabled Hispanic vets? And every Hispanic is judged as a "quota hire"? What kind of bigoted nonsense is this? And this from a so-called "Diversity Manager"?

"Quota" is a buzz-word created by opponents of affirmative action. The fact that you, DOL, would bring the topic up out of any context related to the article in question, shows that you are the one engaging in racism. Looks like you struck out again.

Maybe what Diversity Manager was looking at was the fact that in order to get a worker's job (ie housekeeping, cafeteria, stock room) with the VA in Tampa, you must be either fluent in some dialect of Spanish. If all one sees are just people of spanish decent working there and almost none of them with converse in even broken english to the vets, then DM must see something that none of you see. I have talked to several disabled vets that applied for those jobs but were turned down because they couldn't speak spanish. I know, from friends that have worked there for many years, that a spanish networking group have been working in and with HR to employ at least 47% non- veterans from spanish decent.

So DM is speaking, maybe from practical experience. I see many of the contractor's workers here in MacDill are non english speaking individuals. And see a few veterans being told that there is no work for them here.

Machine fixer, this is an interesting account. Why would there be a requirement that these employees be fluent in Spanish? Are you sure that's required, or is it the fact that they may happen to be Spanish-speaking? Are there not veterans included among them? Where does this 47% figure come from? And is it strictly limited to non-vets? None of that makes any logical sense to me; & back to the original challenge from VEV: where does anyone get off assuming (a) there are no Hispanic DAVs & (b) any Hispanic must be a "quota hire"? Maybe someone at or familiar with VA Tampa could clarify your assertions.

Sounds like somebody had something personal against Hernandez - retaliation possibly. Most of the things she is accused of seem fairly minor to me compared to what our congressmen, senators, presidents, and other politicians do. And anyone that knows law enforcement personnel at the state, county, federal level know that they think the rules only apply to the general populace and certainly not them also. They generally have a sense of privilege and think they can do whatever they want – so what’s new there?
