HR Specialists have highest average salaries

Great article! Many do not realize that one of the fastest growing occupational groups in the federal govt are HR Specialists. The average pay in HR occupations which DO NOT require any college training is higher than the starting pay many occupations requiring a medical degree and experience in the federal government. In one small agency in the Interior, HR Specialists increased over the last five years while their total workforce decreased resulting in a current HR to employee ratio of 1:59. Ironically, the increase took place over the same period of time HR contracted for and implemented an automated application intake and rating program as a labor-saving initiative.

This kills me. The average Fed HR Specialist based in D.C., who has a high school diploma and probably never ventured outside the Beltway, makes more than someone w/a Ph.D., Master's or J.D. Most HR Specialists in D.C. can't even speak or write proper English. Ridiculous.

What do these advanced degrees have to do with anything? If the job doesn't require it (& Budget positions don't) why make an issue of who has the degree or not?
This entire topic is a little skewed. No attempt to differentiate an upper-level HR Director from a mid-level specialist to an entry-level trainee. Looks to me like somebody has an ax to grind against HR as a function & wants to stir up reaction. You can easily make the same point about other white-collar occupations in the fed system - including Budgeting. Ridiculous? "You decide".
