Pay in Full Sick Days on Retirement like A/L

State and Local govts pay these accumulated sick days in full on retirement instead (like Feds do for annual leave0- not the anemic way of CSRS either.
Paying the sick days in full encourages employees to work as much as possible (cuts down mental health days). If they do it, it must work. As the worker gets older and is more valuable, they will sick out even less. So chnage the law to do this for FERS and CSRS.
Also, the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program, regardless of the above, should be changed to allow Feds to give their sick days, not just the annual leave.
Remember, the general public thinks and believe the US Govt is the premier employer of the public sector.

The House passed HR 2990 404 - 0 on 24 June 2009. Lets hope the Senate does the same.

Ralph your facts are not correct on one matter...NTEU does not object to retirees returning to work, or to the issue of retirees receiving dual compensation waivers under certain circumstances. However, NTEU believes there should be some safeguards and standards associated with the agencies’ use of these waivers to safeguard the competitive hiring process, and to ensure that training and promotion opportunities for current employees continues to exist. Suggest you contact NTEU National if you wish to confirm their position.

So where is the bill to provide govmt. matching funds to TSP for CSRS folks that FERS people get?

CSRS retirees receive a MUCH larger pension than FERS retirees, AND the COLA on that already MUCH larger monthly check. FERS retirees are basically funding our own retirement, and the gov't will match up to a maximum of 5% of our salary. As a CSRS retiree, you actually have a much better deal, In My Humble Opinion. I would prefer to have a guaranteed pension for life, of up to 80% of my "high 3" salary, plus a COLA on that entire amount, instead of just Social Security (if any), my TSP account (now GREATLY diminished!!!), and a puny pension annuity. Please educate yourself about the differences before casting aspersions at your colleagues in the federal work force. Thanks!

I think our legislators need to act upon the locality pay that FERS folks do not receive when they retire. That is a chunk of change that we were counting on upon leaving federal service. Now, I may have to reconsider my retirement options.

Since I am contemplating retirement at the end of this calendar year, what are your thoughts about this bill, HR 2990, being passed through Congress (both the House and the Senate) and signed by the President by the end of Calendar year 2009?

Sounds like Health Care Provider needs to educate themself on the retirement plans. One of my co-workers took the time to do an in-depth review of both systems. Based on this review they changed to FERS since it would pay them substantially more.
Health Care Provider should also be sure to disclose all of the facts when making a statement. In order to obtain an 80% payout the CSRS employee normally needs to work over 40 years for the US gov't. which is not typical.
Both plans include both good and bad parts. The CSRS employee was simply pointing out that if the FERS employee gets a nice benefit it would only be fair to do something for the CSRS employee. Surely we can all agree with that.
