When I took a transatlantic cruise, we stopped at Barcelona. I was in a rush to get into the bus to go back to the ship. As my habit, I took the ticket out of the wallet which I keep in my side pocket. I did not think much of it in the crush to get on the bus, but someone had indeed picked my wallet.

It is not allright that this happened. Police are lax. My advice is to carry as little as possible and get a money holder that fits underneath your shirt or blouse. Barcelona is a beautiful city but the pickpockets put a tarnish on it.

Great article by Steve on Barcelona, my favorite city in Spain. I lived in Europe for 7 years during the 80's, am retiring in one month, and am so looking forward to going back.

I noticed a comment from the editor of this site in response to a reader in a recent article that just about every article that is published here is criticized by someone for some reason.

Personally, I think Steve did a good job. I enjoyed the article. I also enjoy the site. I don't read every article.

The federal government has created a culture where whining is viewed as a good thing. I don't agree but we certainly see the results here. Perhaps we should all file a grievance for something and make us all feel better.

I hope the editors/writers of this site will ignore the constant complainers and keep on going a good job--despite the whining of a few. It is a good site with good information and with articles and a perspective we often don't see elsewhere.

Great story

What a fun, well-written story. I enjoyed every word. I, too, visited Barcelona at the front end of a cruise that ended in Venice. You saw much more of it than we did, thanks to rain. We also visited Rio during Carnaval where we spent three days overnighted on a cruise ship. I have learned that even the most savvy of travelers becomes the source of income for thugs. As careful as we were in Buenos Aires, holding onto our luggage until the cab driver took it from us, two groups of people came up and started an argument with the driver, long enough to distract us and take the "mother-load" sitting right at my feet. We took four suitcases and two carry-ons for a 2 week cruise, and they picked the right one out of six with our valuables, all uninsured we learned from ur insurance company because the contents were stolen away from our residence and weren't on a personal property articles policy. Lesson learned the hard way! I look forward to your next article and my own travels soon.

Nice change
