Not-so-subtle tax increase

I guess I’m cynical.

This would be a way to increase tax payments from “high earners” without labeling it a “tax increase.”

That seems to be the theme nowadays.

Candidate Obama says "I won’t raise taxes on people earning less than $250k” … President Obama doesn't say outloud: "but I will let previous tax reductions that end in 2010 lapse and subtly increase taxes through rule changes."

He'll let the tax increases lapse (a good thing IMHO), but I don't make near that much, so it won't bother me.

Things like Cap and Trade will increase costs to energy companies, which will pass on those costs to the consumer, so the govt will get their money in round about ways.

He made a promise about taxes, and I believe him. He said nothing about round about cost increases for food, energy, etc (that will end up in the Federal coffers), and those will get each of us.

Obama. not a liar, an intelligent politician.

At least with W we knew he wasn't smart enough to pull the wool over our eyes with anything he said, unless you actually believed the Iraq invasion was about anything but oil.

Plain & Simple: TAX INCREASE!

No tax increases for the under $200k folks (or whatever he said, I try not to memorize Obama speeches).

He said tax increases for those above that. Plain and simple.

The rest would suffer under the "it costs more to live" inflation and consumer fees.

But those are not tax increases. We end up giving more money to the govt, but they are not tax increases. You need to remove the emotion from your comments and look only at facts.

I'm not suporting the man (I dislike politicians in general), I'm stating that your taxes won't increase if the 2001 tax cuts lapse - unless the DOE pays some enormous salaries to their employees.

Mayby not a "sanchez variety", but an "optimus prime" now and then adds spice to a dull life.

Engineer - If tax cuts lapse taxes will go up (which means we pay what? That's right, we pay more in taxes).

According to you we DON'T have a tax increase even though we'll pay MORE in taxes because of the decision. ookkk..

Citizen, congrats on making more than $250,000.

I don't.

If taxes on the highest income earners go up, mine stay the same.

Stay the same means they don't go up.

If I were rich like you, I wouldn't mind paying more in taxes.

Don't believe me, then let's put it to the test.

Increase my salary to $300,000.

See if I complain.

Engineer - if you think Obama won't raise taxes on those making under 250K then you're hopelessly naive..

so FAA, due to cuts expiring, those people affected will have their taxes increase.... but you don't think that's a tax increase?

Nothing too good for the federal employees under this administration.

I wonder if we'll get a "dirty sanchez" in the end?
