This sort of thing has been done by adminstrations of both parties for a very long time.

What this really illustrates is one of the fundamental flaws of the two party system.

While both parties did it to some extent, it was never this bad. In the past, the legal interns always had a basic respect for the law.

You wouldn't lump every administration together, if you ever had to deal with the kids from Patrick Henry College, Liberty University, or Regent Law School. They wanted to twist the law into turning this country into a theocracy. If you weren't a white Christian conservative watch out.

You have got to be kidding. During the Reagan years? During the Nixon years? Get real.

DOL Dim,

You have stains on the sheets and you claim not to be a bed wetter? Like our former VP, have the guts to say WE DID IT AND SO WHAT. If VP Cheney decides to run in 2012, he has the endorsement of Voldemort and the House of Slytherin

To lord,
Whether a Repub or dem is in power is not relevant. The justice dept is supposed to be neutral and not political when it decides what cases to prosecute and what cases not to. That is very difficult when you have political appointees. It is bad when the interns are discriminated against based on partisanship.
Hope Cheyney and palin do not run in 2012 for obvious reasons to the majority. They would be bad for the country.

Sounds like business as usual, depending on the administration in place. Everyone knows that hires in the government are based on who you know. If you honestly think for one second that all government hires are going to be fair, and based on your qualifications, good luck! This is why 'big' government doesn't help the tax payer. In the private sector, hires and fires are based on performance. In the govt. the only way you will get fired is if you decide to rob a bank, and the only way you get hired is through networking and being the 'most liked' candidate. I, like many govt. employees totally disagree with it, but then we aren't in charge and making the rules.

You have to be a pretty weak excuse for a supervisor if you think the only way to be hired is to be the most liked candidate, etc, etc. If you're really a supervisor, you have some authority for selecting your own subordinates, and if you don't believe so, you should step down from that responsibility & let someone else take over.

HR Spec - There are a great many supervisors who don't have a role in the decision of who is hired. You don't have any idea whether or not DLS supervisor is involved in hiring or not. You might want to hold back on your "weak excuse" and "you should step down" lines until you know what you're talking about.

You cannot be serious that "in the private sector, hires and fires are based on performance." Some are, but if you think everyone in the private sector keeps or loses their job strictly because of performance, you are wearing blinders or are just making knee-jerk negative comments about public employment. The private sector, home of "I drove the company into the ground but still got my $5,000,000 bonus and golden parachute."
