I have donated all types of goods and all my life. And I will continue to do so. The only difference is...I will be donating to AMVETS, DAR and all other PATRIOTIC causes! The way this administration has treated Americans and America is despicable. And they wonder why donations are down. Spare me! Therefore, myself and husband have decided to donate only to organizations who are in dire need and have served this country in one form or another...period! And, oh btw, while I feel for SOME of the Appalachians, please know there is a "pain killer" epidemic in that region. Seems to me they could be spending monies on shampoos and such instead of buying Vicdocin and Oxycontin and MSContin. Watch the documentary!

In other words, you're going to deny certain charitable organizations your donations because you don't like the current administration.

I also search the clearance racks for children's and baby clothes, and hit the school supply sales at the end of summer. I think the "gift boxes" is a great idea. Thank you for your suggestions. On another note: I have been very blessed in my life. I do not care about deciding whether or not someone's misfortune was self inflicted or is significant enough to merit charity. If there is a need and I can help, it is just the right thing to do.

Though this is a bit dated, I feel it is worthwhile to comment upon. I applaud all who donate anything to help anyone at this time in US history. Politics and politicians do not stop hunger, food will. That said, there is another unfulfilled need. That is kill / no kill animal shelters, training centers for working animals and the necessary functions they perform with little to no recognition or support money. Perhaps, at this CFC time, a small donation to one of the many animal rescue/training related charities would be appropriate as well.
