Good Pay Day for the Lawyers in VA Class Action Lawsuit

It's easy to attack the attorneys for getting a big slice of the pie but that ignores the fact that the VA DID violate the privacy act and rather than face up to it and make a payment to the injured parties, the VA decided to fight and make them file a lawsuit to get any compensation. Maybe instead of making aggreived employees file lawsuits the offending agencies should just start doing the right thing and paying up when they violate employee rights. But then, that's too near to right, so it will never happen.

Yeah I'm glad the attorneys made out so well. We all know how downtrodden they are and how they fought in all the wars to keep us free.

When lawyers file contingency suits, they agree to collect a fee only if damages are awarded. Thus, if no damages are awarded, no fee. That is one reason for the huge legal fee.
We also do not know the lawyer's costs in the fee. That may or may not be relevant. Lawyers, need help on this one. Do they come out of the fee they collect?
Note that the judge made the decision for legal fees. That appears to be an independent decision.
Do not forget time on case.

I was a plantiff in a lawsuit. The atty fees came off the top, before the atty got his third.

What would one expect , file a no brainer class action since harm was done and reap a big payday. At least the judge did reduce the the claim to $3.6 million. So these lawyers only made about $10,000 per hour of actual work .
We need some tort claim protection now that legislates that lawyers can not get such high % of dollars in class action suits.

Tort reform would not sit well with John Edwards and his fellow democrats. If it did, they would have included it in their health care "reform" proposals. However, fleecing America is the name of the game for lawyers and politicians and they continue to do so because of gullible voters.

This really irks me to no end!! Uncle has had his hand into regulating Wall Street and the Banking Community for some time now to help squash the greed that has taken hold of the nations banking institutions. I think the same ought to be done to these "Blood Sucking Lawyers"!!! I'll bet, as a guess that few lawyers are veterans. Or are suffering from any of the medical problems that most of these "Vet" have acquired through service to their country. They have put their financial gain ahead of any morality that they might still have within them. How can they be allowed to reap more of the financial benefits than the people they have been working for??? To me this is leagalize grand larceny!! It's one thing to want a paycheck but this is something entirely different!!

As a Army retiree, I believe the penalty should have been much worse. The VA seems to always bungle something from veteran information to medical operations to disability claims, etc. This organization needs to be completely overhauled and the first step should be the appointment of a new secretary. One who actually knows how to run a business.

have already said that tort reform is off the table since the trial lawyers overwhelmingly support the democratic party. So don't look for the two things that would help health care, tort reform and portability/nationwide servicing. The tobacco lawyers fed off the cigarette companies for years until they got their 44 Billion, John Edwards made his through a drug that was later proven innocent, and the toll continues. Until the lawyers are held in check they will adversely affect every part of uor lives. But don't look for the politicians to clean this up...they're lawyers.

The tobacco comment is a bit off. Granted the smokers should not be smoking. But the tobacco companies make a product with no redeeming values. Their product kills people period. It is a bad drug.
let the lawyers get more out of those companies.
