Check out William Henry Harrison before you decide that Garfield held the office for the shortest time in the history of our nation. Ole Tippecanoe only made it 31 days - Dates of Presidency: 3/4/1841 - 4/4/1841

I think the shortest term was served by William Henry Harrison, not Garfield.
