What about married and single folks? Single people are passed over for promotion repeatedly because the married person "needs the promotion."

I happen to work in an office where I am the only caucasian and know for a fact that I am the lowest paid, hardest working employee, so I get tired of hearing that "minorities" are still being paid less...give me a break.

The percentages seem to align favorably with the population of qualified individuals. This is surprising to me based on my recent experience both in Kansas City and in DC. It has become quite apparent that, at least in HHS, the policy is "White Males Need Not Apply".

how much you want to bet that these figures were not adjusted for a) education, b) experience, c) absences from the government to raise a family or c) previous performance??
These sorts of things are always suspect. The "Wage Gap" is a myth that has been perpetuated by those who benefit most from its perpetuation.

Like the stat that says that 57% of women graduate college compared to 43% of men. Would it not them make sense that more women would be qualified to hold these higher level positions?

You also mention that women tend to leave the workforce to raise children. That obviously is true, but until men can bare children this should not be used against a woman in the decision of who is best suited for the job. We have a social responsibility to procreate and replinish the workforce and women are the only gender biologically able to do this- so leave that out!
I do not agree the problem is as serious as the author makes it out to be, because I do believe some women chose to pursue work/life balance. But as a woman with a PhD being paid less than me with BA I can attest that
Are federal agencies monitored for compliance

If there are so many laws protecting minority populations then why do federal agencies fail to comply with Title VII? The Forest Service is a perfect example, most of the higher grade positions are held by white males and white females. Minorities are swept under the rug? So it makes me wonder, who is responsible for monitoring federal agencies and forcing them to comply with the law?By the way, I am minority...

As long as federal agencies employee attorneys to defend unequal pay, the practice will continue.
It is ongoing here.

The article implies that the discrepancies are due to discrimination. After seeing how affirmative action and the EEO laws have been misused to hire and promote those in the protected classes, it is my conclusion after working almost 40 years for the government in various agencies that just the reverse is true.
