Good actcurate article, on OWCP and how they deal with dedicated Fedral employees. It a wonder that they have not had someone go "Postal" in their offices. Or maybe they have and it not going public.

Thanks for smearing the Post Office - a group of "dedicated Federal employees" who work harder than the average DoD slacker.

i WANT TO KNOW WHY THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING OVERBOARD ABOUT MAKING SURE EVERYONE HAS IT THREW THE GOVERNMENT. i HAVE HAD hEALTH INSURANCE FOR OVER 39 YEARS AND IT CHANGES EVERY YEAR. yEARS YOU HAD COVERAGE FOR YOUR FAMILY AND ONE DEDUCTABLE PER YEAR, NOW YOU HAVE A DEDUCTABLE PER EACH MEMBER. My DEDUCTABLE IS 600.OO PER YEAR. I HAVE A CO-PAY OF $25.00 A DOCTOR VISIT,BUT IF i HAVE TO HAVE ANY TEST RUN I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM,DUE TO THE FACT I HAVE NOT MET THE 600.00 DEDUCTABLE. tHIS IS WHAT I BELEAVE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. MORE PEOPLE COULD AFFORD INSURANCE IF THE DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR TEST ON TOP OF EVERTHING ELSE. hEALTH INSURANCE FOR ME AS WELL AS FOR OTHER PEOPE ONLY HELPS IF SOMETHING MAGER HAPPENS AND YOU HVE TO STAY IN HOSPITAL. RiGHT NOW I DID BLOOD WORK DONE BUT CANT AFORD IT DUE TO THE FACT . I AM PAYING THE HIGH COST JUST TO KEEP INSURANCE(HOME,AUTO,LIFE,HEALTH). tHIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AS FAR AS HAVING TO PAY ALL THE DECUTABLESBefore you are covered.

CSI, when you are injured on your job and you fill out the insurance paper work for your FEHP provider, your insurance will not cover medical treatment. It has to go through OWCP. It is not that Federal Employees want to go through the private health insurance...It is because they are mandated by law, rule and regulation. It is the exclusive remedy.

My husband was hurt at work and had a witness. He filled out the CA-1 that same day. He did not go to the doctor that day, nor did anyone tell him he should go. About 1 month later his neck starting hurting him, so he went and the doctor said it was from his accident(He hit his head). He was denied worker's comp and was without pay for almost 1 year. After getting a lawyer, they finally accepted his claim and back payed him, but by then we were almost bankrupt. It is a shame that anyone should have to go thru this. It has also affected him mentally and not just physically. You have to keep fighting.

The falacy of workers' compensation is that you need a witness and that you must hire a lawyer. Both of those statements are completly and utterly false.

Under the FECA, all an injured employee needs is to file a claim within 3 years of the alledged incident and submit supporting medical evidence from a "physician" that supports that the diagnosed condition was caused or aggravated by factors of the employees Federal employment.

Workers' compensation is not "rocket science" and is in fact a lot easier than most state workers' compensation programs.

The other thing that is constantly said is that an injured employee needs to hire a lawyer to get their claim accepted. The most a lawyer will do for an injured employee in most cases is run up a huge bill and do very little work in getting the claim accepted. I've seen bills in the thousands of dollars for absolutely no "real legal work" on the claim. The injured employee is stuck paying a bill that in all honesty, is bogus.

I will start by saying that I am a disabled veteran and endeavor to treat all my claimants with dignity and respect. Although my workload is horrendous, I am paid well and take my responsibilities seriously, realizing that these are real human beings and fellow government workers. Although the vast majority of submitted claims are valid, there are many that are "sketchy", and many folks try to use the program to retire, which is not the program intent.
For the author specifically - We get letters from the employing agencies requesting that we close cases due to "inactivity", as open cases stay on their AQS reports. If I close a case without a formal decision, I can also re-open the case if need be, without a CA-2a.
Bottom line - if you are legitimately hurt on the job, please file a claim. I and my fellow CE's will take care of you.

I am under OWCP and fortunately, I have not had any problems in getting help from them, I know I will not get any better because what I have is irreversible but I am hoping when I retire they will take that inconsideration and accept the disability, I do have a lot of pain due to my carpan tunnel but If I can still due my job I will continue working. I am not seeking any compensation for this injury but If Employee Relations tell me I do deserve it then I will seek and try to get something for this problem I have with my hands and arms. I am sorry to hear this about Ms Lynda and I wish she was able to get some compensation but I guess not everybody gets lucky, being that so many people are injured is hard to approve everybody, especially with the economy so low now.

I can trully feel sorry for what you have gone through. My over 30 years has seen many such cases. However, I have seen many more cases of false injuries filed that have quickly been handled in the employees favor. These have mostly been to just be rid of troublesome employees or avoid claims of prejudice. They then live on forever while the agency and taxpayer are robbed blind. I realize there are people who truly deserve compensation for injuries but the whole OWCP system is a total joke to me.

I hurt my shoulder while on the job and the accident was witnessed by a fellow employee. Th OWCP denied the claim even with the witness testimony and the Doctors statement.
