Great idea - the result of which will be the long expected retirement tsunami. No one who can go, will stay to watch more of their income taken from them.

How come you didn't talk about the 1 trillion it cost in Iraq and the proposed 1 trillion to keep in Afganistan for another 10 years. That amounts to $20,000 for each taxpayer (100 million tax returns). 3,000 died in 9/11 and over 400,000 died since 9/11 since they didn't have health care. and your talking about a few hundred $ a year. Get real

And how come you don't talk about the trillions more that have been tossed away under the current administration. Funny how people tend to forget how long the Dems controlled the House and Senate before Pres Obama got elected - and in true fashion could not do a thing to save their lives.

in 1976 when Jimmy carter left Office the National Debt was 900 million. Then Reagan and the Republicans decided to fight the new deal and turn us into a 3rd world nation and confiscated taxes for the rich. Reagan raised the debt to 2.5 trillion, Bush 1 to 5 trillion and Bush 2 to 10.5 trillion. All reduced taxes without any corresponding budget cuts ..PURE IRRESPONSIBILITY!! AND NONE OF These PHONEY CONSERVATIVES vetoed 1 Appropriations bill so don't blame it on the Democratic Party. The Republicans don't care about the country. They want a free ride in a devleoped modern democracy without paying for it.

How about if we wait until the actual bill comes out of the senate and house.
And will this be a 40% excise tax or a figure added to your taxable income? Thus, if you are in the 15% bracket or 25% bracket or whatever, the tax will not be 40%.
I would like to know exactly what this is by the source, not a reporter who may be innacurate.

Accountant, retired, DOE: These figures you use are sad indeed but they are small compared to the politically run war called Vietnam. By the way, DOE pays their employees quite well for the most part.

I do not make twice as much as the average American on my federal salary. Perceptions are wrong when it comes to the average federal employee. If you take away the locality pay (and some areas do not even receive this extra), the salary goes down greatly-by $thousands. The reason for the locality pay is that federal salaries are NOT comparable to the private sector. When you add in the locality pay, the salaries are just breaking even in most cases.

Huh?

I don't mind paying my part of what the increase for the new health insurance would be but I feel passionate about paying only my portion. The burden of the healthcare system should not fall on the federal employee's shoulders.

The other thing I feel a little disturbed about is that people feel we are overpaid. That may have been the case many years ago but with all of the cuts, etc. this is no longer the truth. Also, when you compare federal workers to the general public, this is a very inequitable comparison. In the federal government, we do no have as much unskilled labor as the general public. You are not comparing apples to apples.

They are referring to the average worker when they talk pay--you know, the part time college students, spouses doing smaller jobs, young entry level workers. Those low paying jobs make up well over 50% of the workers. I am a Fed, and my wife and 3 college age kids make less than I do--I am in the upper 20% of income in my family, and I am sure many others are in the same boat. If you talk averages, it means nothing. We should be compared to workers doing the same job, but they refuse to report that. The fact is, almost all breadwinners make more than half the salary of an average citizen because there are more than 50% of the jobs that include parking lot attendants, lawn care, housekeeping, jewelry stores, Cafes, etc. than there are main job employees--Always has been and always will be. In addition, to really inflate the numbers, they include overstated Fed benefit costs, but none of the private sectors or the rich bonuses people make in many jobs like CEOs, CFOs, Brokers, etc.

they have to pay for the plan somehow, someway and they will do it off the backs of the federal worker. Of course that does not include our stellar congressmen and senators, but on the other hand you do get to pay for the illegal criminal aliens that the Dems love so much.

Now how about that for transparency?

President Obama is a really smart man. I think all this crying about not getting the Fox New candidate in office is getting old. You don't know how lucky you are! Stop crying and pull the money out of your pocket. Our government leaders need all of us to do our part by paying for the excessive life styles that we have grown fat upon. Get over it, you lost...maybe next time you will work harder for your brother would lives in the street.

To Obama Lover..I can't believe the mentality of someone that looks at this as a "we won, you lost". We are ALL losing...don't you get it yet!! When will you see that this is not a FOX news issue. I know nothing about you, but my lifestyle is not excessive..Pull your own money out, and leave mine alone..I worked to hard for it. One thing to remember, congress (The Pelosi House) was owned by Dems for 2 years before Obama got there, so blaming GOP...don't wash...

To retired,
The problem is that the right wingers get worked up over something that probably will not happen in the way reported and then blame the dems. That is why the dems respond the way they did.
A better critisism would be to critisize the proposal itself.
If you throw mud, you will get it back.

Retired, you are really living in a cloud, aren't you?

The Dems didn't "own" Congress for two years. They held a slim majority, so nothing got passed without a lot of Republicans signing on to the legislation. And, just a reminder--the president at the time was fully capable of using his veto power.

Oh, wait! The wasteful bills that got through were HIS proposals, including the bank/auto bailouts and the cruddy credit card "reform" that resulted in the CC companies raising rates 200-300%. Ever see an interest rate triple on a soldier because he was "high risk" due to the wars? It isn't pretty at all.

And, while you whine about "your money", not all agencies are paid via tax dollars. There are several that have to generate their own revenue (ICE, SSA, etc.) and are not on the public payroll at all. Then they pay taxes to support YOUR retirement.

The biggest problem in our country is a institutional selfishness and you are a poster child for said problem.

Never in my life have I seen so much ignorance; such sheer denial of reality and such profound stupidity as that expressed by the supporters of the Obama regime, relevant to the health care debate and other items currently being considered by the most "marxist" Congress ever elected thus far. Certainly they would qualify as mindless drones who must be wearing the most shaded rose colored glasses available. What this boils down to is the obnoxious notion successfully peddled by the Democrats that the "world owes everyone a living." The ironic part of this entire mess is that the Democrats are merely using these drones as part of their effort to establish a marxist oligarchic dictatorship in this country with one-party rule! Furthermore, these mindless drones do not seem to understand that the acquisition of more power is driving this movement! For those who know what it is all about and support it, then you are part of the problem as well.

Once again, NObama and his cronies are going to make his promises work at the expense of the hard working 2 million Feds. Does this also include the military folks? It should not include the military or the feds.

For those of you who voted for this guy I have one question --- ARE YOU SORRY YET? I think I'll print up a bunch of bumper stickers and start handing out in in the central plains.

Can't wait until 2012 to vote this guy out before he totally ruins this country.

let us not forget the VP who shot someone and was not prosecuted.

It sounds like you would be better off on the Government welfare program...free food, free housing, free credit card reimbursement, free healthcare, free transportation, free loans, everything is free...except for the slug taxpayers that are footing the expenses.

That is why I thought the businesses who took the bail-out were not looking into the future. It only makes sense that if you take money from the government. . .there would be strings. Just think, the government actually told some of the companies they would not allow them to repay the bail-out money. Why would they say that? Hm? Talk about chickens coming home to roost. I am looking to buy a home in the near future. All my friends tell me excitedly how I can get that "$8,000 gov't. credit". Do you know what I tell them? No. . .No. . .NO WAY! I will sit back and see what the government is going to expect from those who took the credit. Nothing I hope!!! However, for some reason I rather doubt that's the case. You are very correct, I trust no one in this administration. What a shame. Truly, what a shame.
