OK, that's done. Now how about repealing the Windfall and GPO that affects another small section of government service workers. These are two of the most unfair retirement benefit reductions that affect primarily women. Thanks!

Perhaps you should get a copy of these and have someone read them and explain them to you. It actually is fair and correct. xo

dod, it is NOT fair. You need to read the bill. Any other employee in the US is entitled to their pension and what they qualify for under SS without offset. Why should CSRS people be treated differently?

IRS Agent: Perhaps you should take dod’s advice and read the WEP and GPO information. If you did you’d see they exist to readjust the SS benefits to account for a work history on which no SS was paid. SS benefits are not linear. They are weighted towards low income earners. If WEP and GPO did not exist then CSRS pensioners with the minimum number of quarters to qualify for SS would receive benefits as if that is all they earned, and were not collecting a CSRS pension. In other words they would be receiving far more SS benefits than those that spent there entire life working under SS with a comparable lifetime income. Now that would NOT be fair.

To inspector,

Then let me work after CSRS life without paying any SS. I will then never apply to SS no matter how many quarters I work in later life.

Just don't make me pay for something I will never get.

And the only thing that is FAIR in life starts Friday and runs for 7 days. They have some really good rides this year.

FAA - thank you. It is encouraging to see that at least one other person has read the material and understands the provisions. It is a fairly easy concept: if you did not earn it then you are not entitled to it.

Amazing we still have Cs who think that paying in $100 into SS entitles them to take out a $1000. You want that kind of return play the lottery or go to Vegas

To diversity manager,
Cite the source for your numbers. You love to say things with no backup.
To the rest of the writers above me,
Please do not make statements like read the law. We have. We understand it. That is why we are making good comments on it.
If an ex CSRS employee works for 10 years under social security and makes a certain amount of social security money each year, then the employee is entitled to social security benefits. A CSRS employee cannot have social security taxes taken out of CSRS wages or salaries. The wages worked over 10 years is divided by 35 to arrive at the average social security wages. This would be similar to a housewife or househusband who started working later in life to collect social security benefits.
I believe that those who could not pay into social security by law should not be penalized with the offset and the stage one limitations imposed during the Reagan years.

I can fully undersand the Windfall Elimination for Federal Employees--that makes sense to me that I should not receive a full SS benefit because I paid most of my retirement to CSRS and not the SS system. The GPO does not make any sense. Why should a widow or widower be penalized from receiving the spouse's social security benefit just because she/he was a Federal employee. I have a friend who is going through this now and it is just not fair.

I take it.

One of the reasons I opted to remain in CSRS vs. FERS was the inclusion of my sick leave. They need to get rid of government pension offsets, WEP, and match my TSP contributions to level this playing field. Nothing like changing the rules in the middle of a game! I'm incensed.

How have these changes affected you? Does it hurt you that FERS employees get this benefit? Does it take anything away from you?

How is it not a level playing field? FERS employees get TSP matching to compensate for the much smaller annuity than what is available to CSRS employees.

Credit for sick leave is a totally separate issue. CSRS employees received additional credit for unused sick leave, which amounted to an extra benefit. Now all employees have the same benefit. That is fair.

I agree with FERS employees regarding sick leave benefits. Howeve, the rules for CSRS employees were changed midstream regarding social security. Many of us started prior to the social security law changes.
CSRS employees should not get matching TSP benefits. That is not part of CSRS pension benefits. We get a larger guaranteed benefit than FERS employees.

All the hard-working federal employees out there should have received these changes long ago. This is a great day. This is why I am a solid lifelong liberal Democrat and voted for Obama.

Thank you Democrats and President Obama!!!!

Ending the Department of Defense's pay-for-performance personnel system, the National Security Personnel System or NSPS, restoring employees to the federal General Schedule pay system is a great step forward. Now make to happen for DOT.

Is that Fight Standards for FAA?

If so going back to GS could hurt some of us old timers in Tech Ops, but help the new people.
Maybe they could let stay we are unless we would benefit by going back to GS.

Is there anything out there to consider allowing FERS employees to make a deposit for FICA service after 12/31/1988?
