Your New Salary: How Much Will You Make in 2010?

Overseas Rate in Calculator

You have a great calculator and I've used it many years; however, now I am overseas so I was wondering "Why isn't the overseas rate, that is a flat 1.5% with no locality pay included in your calculator?" This makes it easier to figure out the hourly and yearly wages.
Thanks,

In fall of 1980, President Carter authorized a 9.1% pay raise, in hopes of warming the hearts of federal employees on Election Eve.

So far, President Obama is on a similar course--"train wreck"--President Carter pursued, so you may have to wait but 2012 will be a good year for Feds, for sure. :-)

It was a reflection of the sad Carter economy. People don't remember what the effects of inflation feel like, but they soon will.

Why are all you government beaurocrats complaining? Be thankful for having a job the begin with and secondly, for getting a raise.

To JK,
Because we are underpaid based on the last study done in the late 80's. People say the study is wrong, but no one did a new study. why?

When you consider 0 productivity gains in the past 10 years a 2% take away would have been more equatable.
Coupled with the fact that the avg CS makes twice what the taxpayer earns is something that can't last much longer

To diversity manager-actually retired military and not a civil servant,

Please cite your source for prodictivity gains. Please cite it giving the internet source.

Again you make a stupid comment that we make twice what the private sector gets. Your source is a stat that says civil servants make an average of $120000 and private sector makes $60000. You say this in spite of the fact that is not relevant. We have less hamburger flippers and part timers than the private sector.
Again, the last study of our pay vs private industry shows we are underpaid. Our raise should have been much higher than 2%.
Perhaps, for misleading the people about your true function just your military pension should be reduced by 20%. .

It is nice that we did at least get a little something for all our hard work. But once you consider that my health care went up 8% and my housing insurance went up another 5% and the cost of everything else has went up. I am making less then what I was last year. As I stated it is nice that we did get a little something, But let the people in Washington take a cut and see how much they cry.

The article says "San Jose has the most annual salaries capped at the $155,500 figure with 5. Houston, Los Angeles and New York all come in second with the most annual salary levels capped (3)." While these areas have more steps that are capped at GS-15, the largest number of capped employees is in the Washington, DC pay area -- more than 6,000 of the 7,106 that were capped in 2008, according to data from OPM. Capped employees in all of the areas receive no locality pay, and are all paid the same -- which is counter to the intent of the Federal Employees' Pay Comparability Act to pay employees differently based on differences in local salary rates.

It figures that we would get some whiners from the DC area that are pay capped.

While you are whining think of those in "rest of US", I am sure they are real happy with the big raise they got.

By the way I am not in "rest of US", but I used to be. I can sympathize with them.

"The "rest of the US" also has lower costs"

And they have lower GS rates. DC is full of 13/14/15 grades. Go to the midwest and you will see 7/9/11.

So the groceries in DC cost more than in Kansas and Iowa? What about health care, gasoline?

Pretty much the added % that went to DC was on the backs of RUS. It is a political game.

To worker bee,
You forgot to mention housing. The expense of housing is much higher in Washington DC than in the midwest.
I am not from Washington, DC NT, Chicago, or California.
It appears that costs are higher in the listed areas than in rest of US. That is why we and they get the higher amounts.
If you have a study that shows otherwise, please share it with us.

I don't think anyone isn't happy they have a job and that they got a little raise. But I do think people are tired of all the waste that goes on and then we are looked down on for a 2% raise. We Federal Employees seem to be the scapegoat for all the financial problems. It just get old to keep hearing how over paid we are, when most people don't know anything about who we are or what we do. I have put in 20 years and worked my way up from a GS 4, no one gave me anything. So when they lump all Federal Employees and say we make over $100,000 a year it upsets me. I'll never see $100,000 a year if I work till I die. Just wish people would understand that.

You are exactly correct!! There are certain think tanks, chambers of commerce, certain politicians, & anti-government crack pots who make a sport, & a spectical, out of giving all government workers cheap shots. They will not go away. Just see which politicians caters to them for votes & you will easily know who not to vote for. If you work for nothing.....volunteer....some of them may like you a little!! Get used to the ranting, hopping mad, hyper-ventiliating, lunatics. They revel in such.

They ask the Federal employees to sacrifice! Well, they forget that the peons are not making that much money. Only the higher ups get the big bucks. We get a 2% raise and that doesn't even cover the amount of health insurance that will be added on. They also want all of us to pay for the health insurance of others as they feel we can afford it. Ba HUm BUG! Maybe the higher ups can get FREE health care but us peons cannot. Maybe they should dig into their pockets the way we have to.!

Be glad you have a job! Be glad we get pay raises. I have worked in private industry, and not that many get annual COLAs. If they gave us a huge increase, think of the backlash they would have when many can't even find a job for a dollar an hour.
