Yeah, I really feel like my rights are violated by the Patriot Act....
Right......the compontents of this act have been inplace a long time. Even helped to catch the Unabomber...I guess if the gov't. has a real pressing ineed to know what I check out at libraries, hey, they can knock theselves out. I am hiding nothing...But if they catch some **** yo-yo trying to find a recipe for bombs to kill me then I say 'have at it'...And I am glad the ACLU is out of the CFC! If they stayed, might as well donate outright to the terrorists....

Please; if the ACLU or any charitable organization currently enrolled in the CFC doesn’t want to “certify” as required, then they don’t have to participate. As far as I know participation is voluntary. On the other hand, if they want a shot at MY money, then they get to play by the rules. I think they should find a more noble fight – shouldn’t be too hard – or maybe it is.

I have personally had my job threatened by mgmt. intimidating donations for the CFC. I didn't donate, and lo and behold, shortly there after I was moved to a lousy job that destroyed my hands and shoulder joints. I say "Right On" to the ACLU for withdrawing from the CFC, and supporting the things all americans should believe in, like the Constitution! Wake-Up folks, Terrorism is just another name for a way to control your lives, kind of like McCarthyism. This whole administration plays on the FEARS of the American Public. All anyone has to do is watch the ads being run by this administration to help achieve re-election! Wake-Up Indeed!

Since Congress made this law, it seems on fair to the small local charities to be able to have some easy access to scan the supposed "watch list". From what I have read the list is long, cumbersome and very time consuming to include looking under alaises. I believe the correct way to do this is not by having charities do a extensive background check on every person in their agency but have the US government give an easy and comprehensive way to search the supposed "watch list". And also please keep in mind this is almost the same type of list that was used in the 40 and 50's concerning communists. Can anyone say Lucille Ball!!

Although interesting, the controversy over the CFC becoming a terrorist watchdog is hardly the only problem with the CFC. Worse and of much longer duration is the little known fact that the CFC is NOT funded by the government. It oeprates by taking up to ten percent of employee contributions for its own operating expenses. So whatever an employee may pledge through the CFC is automatically and pretty much without the employee knowing it taken away from the charity. Federal employees are generous in supporting worthy causes but they are also wise shoppers. If you want ALL of your charitable contribution to go to the charity or cause of your choice, contribute it directly and avoid the CFC.

I have never donated to the ACLU. However, the Patriot Act with its attacks on the civil liberties of Americans made me realize that a watchdog such as the ACLU serves all of us.

Pray, tell...how is the Patriot Act impacting you? It doesn't. And most people who are whining about it don't have a clue as to what it says or does. Just spitting out the party line. Keep listening to 'toon town' news, honey....put your head back in the sand....

Wow, sounds like "pas" is throwing stones in his/her glass house. Talk about a clearly belligerent, partisan attitude. If you don't agree with a policy, you're ignorant; yeah...right. That's funny. Let's not pretend that sacrificing privacy and rights is the key to stopping terrorists. Sounds like you see things in black and white, but that's to be expected.

If the ACLU doen't like the Patriot Act that's GREAT. When people get tire of the fun and games and they quit donating to the "charities," . The "charities," will tell the ACLU where to get off.

What are they afraid of?

The ACLU left the CFC July 31 because it would be "against its principles and mission" to check its employees against the watch lists.
What "principles and mission" could possibly be against making sure money donated by thousands of Federal employees doesn't fund terrorist attacks against Americans?

Big surprise - the AC[Lawyers]U is suing somebody. FedSmith is creating a tempest in a teapot here by posting article after article on the subject. Time to "Move On."
