Sieg Heil! Actually we are worse than the Nazis - we are going to show the Russians how to do true Communism Right! (And I'm not, nor have I ever been, a smoker).
What's next on the list of freedoms that we can do away with?...(excluding alcohol, divorce, extra-marital affairs, abuse, greed, war, assault weapons, overspending, hate for gay people, hate for non-English speaking people, economic enslavement of other nations not yet under the world banks, etc. etc. of course) What a country we are becoming... Satan must be truly proud.

You need a reality check. I have worked for two very large companies that did not allow smoking on their facility, Georgia-Pacific and Boise Paper Solutions. What in the world does Satan have to do with it, God says to treat your body as a temple. You have been working in the Gov too long!

Let me get this right.. A world without war, hate, extra-marital affairs, abuse, greed, etc would be a bad place?

Satan must be truly proud???

Since these items are of Satan's making, I respectfully disagree with you.

Have a Merry Christmas.

I am happy to hear about the smoking ban. As a non-smoker I have witnessed the number of "smoke breaks" smokers take which amounts to much more than two 15 minute breaks allowed to federal employees. The worst part about it is, it is accepted by managers that it is "ok" for them to do it, oh but let them catch a non-smoker taking an extra break and we get reamed.
I comend the HHS for standing up and being bold.

Do like we do. Buy a pack of candy cigarettes and go outside to smoke when the real smokers go.
Just make sure the candy cigarette smokers have their own smoking area.

Okay, I think we're probably only a few steps away from MORE HELP from Uncle Sam.

How about a brethelizer check for everyone who leaves the government complex for lunch when they return. Beer is BAD for us and we need this kind of help!

Jogging is GOOD for us. Mandatory laps around the building each day. Or, even move the parking area a half mile or so down the road. My God, we're going to be in great shape in no time at all! How about an audible scale with loud speakers at the entrances to building. Create a little embarassment and peer presure and we'll trim down those waistlines as well! JUST CAN'T WAIT!

I don't know why this is news. The BOP has taken away smoking for employees in several institutions already. They are even talking about not allowing it at all on the entire Federal Reservation (You won't even be able to have it in your vehicle at work).

They also took it away from the inmates (which seems like a good idea) except it is causing a new form of contraband, more fights and extortion among inmates which translates into more problems and injuries for staff.

Employees who believe in personal freedom had better stand up soon or everyone will soon be losing out.

As a smoker, I am sick and tired of being told how to live my life. Smoking outside to prevent others from being forced to inhale second hand smoke is enough of a concession to make, and one that I make gladly. To "outlaw" smoking outside is completely outrageous, a change in the terms of a person's employment, and should NOT be allowed to happen.

Well once the smoking ban is all squared away, the government will look more seriously at obesity in the fed workplace. The cafeteria (if there's one in the bldg) will bequired to stock only healthy items, and those things deamed junk won't be allowed in your lunch sack either. May go even a step further and make it a requirement for federal employees to exercise three days a week and maintain a certain weight for your body frame. If only they'd pay us a supermodel's salary . . .

I agree, they should make them maintain a certain weight like the military. I am tired of squeezing around big people. They should make everyone who isn't a size 6-8 run around the building at lunch.

Some military have an extended lunch period so they can get in some PT over their lunch "hour" and still get something to eat. It is an excellent way to stay in shape and still manage to have your life after work. If my agency were to allow us the time to PT and make sure we had shower facilities, you would see me on the elliptical or treadmill every day.

Does this sound like "1984" twenty years late to anyone but me? If these bans, etc. keep happening at the rate they are, "1984" will actually be about happening around 2015.....Scary, isn't it?
