I'm so sorry you feel that way about unions. FDA has one of the best contracts in the federal sector. I have been on both sides (bargaining & non-bargaining), and I can tell you from experience that you need your union. Where do you think your Pay increases come from? Your unions are on Capitol Hill day in and day out lobbying for your rights. If Bush has his way, he'll take your job right out from under you. Thank God for unions. They're the only protection we have.

I wonder if "consultant" to HHS actually means "contractor" or "contractor's employee" as in thous who want to minimize instances of actual Federal employees doing the work of the government. If that is the case, perhaps there is a bit of personal interest involved in minimizing the role of unions in the Federal process.

Amen to both Prog Spec & ISO...What other protections do we have, eh? You'd think I would be a bit more ambivalent regarding Unions as an HR Specialist, but I see day in and day out how a union presence makes folks think about the ramifications of their actions...and nobody's perfect...the union in question seems to have tried an end-run around renegotiations...but you have to ask yourself, how many times has this shoe been on the other foot when the union has wanted to negotiate something and the govt. says no? My guess is that it's much more common that we think.
